hey everyone, im new 2 this so just puttin this out in hope of some knowledgable replies.....ive got a vs ute its got a whine in the diff, has anyone experienced this problem? if so, is it an overhaul and how much are they? thanks for any help

there is a thread on here in the how-to section on replacing diff centres, have a gander so you know what your up against if you do it yourself.

i have had diff whine in mine (IRS), found an LSD and i replaced it on stands. live axle might be easier to swap centres if you cant find a complete assembly.

an overhaul will cost you round $300 odd, ring a couple of local diff specialists and find out a price to see if its worth getting a fresh build or just going secondhand

got mine in tomorrow for the same problem, Live axle open diff whining.

$495 second hand fitted with 3 month warranty. getting brakes done at the same time.

was quoted $950 for complete rebuild with everything

If it's just a whine and not a rumble then I'd just add a tube of gearbox/back axle/diff reconditioner stuff. It will quiten a lot of diffs and is a lot better than the banana skins used back in the 50's. I used some in a MQ Patrol 4 speed gearbox and it made the box much quieter. Costs less than $20.
