Have you tried an auto elec to get your old one reconditioned? Depending on what is wrong with the old one, fixing should be a lot cheaper - you can replace the drive pinion, brushes, bushes, armature, solenoid, field windings.....basically every individual part. You may also find that the auto starter is identical except for a minor difference and can be modified. (just guessing here but if you want to save $$$!)
    Good Luck.

VP (and possibly VN S2) starter motors should work. I have a flexplate-adapting flywheel on my VN and the manual starter works fine.

I know that VP changed from the bosch to the delco remy as it says in my service manual. Not sure about VR+ though. Im guessing theyre the same.

VP they all should be. VN possibly only series 2. You can easily identify the delco remy by the two long metal bolts on the outside. The reason the bosch starters dont work is because the "snout" doesnt fit in the bellhousing.

Dunno about that one. The end of the shaft attaches to the snout. Depends how well its supported internally I guess lol

guess someone is going to have to bite the bullet and have a look, I MIGHT get around to it, unless someone beats me to it.

I have a fricken bad memory, so I will probably forget, I generally forget to do things all kinds of things, like the time I was meant to put the handbrake on
