hey ive been looking everywhere for a vs t5 starter motor and the only place that had them where holden and repco. i dont really want to pay 490 for one so does anyone know where i can get one a bit cheaper than that. thanks
Have you tried an auto elec to get your old one reconditioned? Depending on what is wrong with the old one, fixing should be a lot cheaper - you can replace the drive pinion, brushes, bushes, armature, solenoid, field windings.....basically every individual part. You may also find that the auto starter is identical except for a minor difference and can be modified. (just guessing here but if you want to save $$$!)
Good Luck.
VP (and possibly VN S2) starter motors should work. I have a flexplate-adapting flywheel on my VN and the manual starter works fine.
I know that VP changed from the bosch to the delco remy as it says in my service manual. Not sure about VR+ though. Im guessing theyre the same.
im converting my ute to manual so i needed a new one. what do you do to the auto one to make it work?
azzfox is it any vn and vp starter motors? i got my mates vp sitting in the drive way :P hehehe
VP they all should be. VN possibly only series 2. You can easily identify the delco remy by the two long metal bolts on the outside. The reason the bosch starters dont work is because the "snout" doesnt fit in the bellhousing.

cheap and easy to find lol
boozt is that with a t5? i found one for 80 so just got to have a day off work to go get it :P
Wow, $80. Beats my $220 any day lol
yeah i got it for 80. seems to be alright so far
couldnt I get the dremel out or the grinder and cut the "snout" off of a spare Bosch starter?
Dunno about that one. The end of the shaft attaches to the snout. Depends how well its supported internally I guess lol
guess someone is going to have to bite the bullet and have a look, I MIGHT get around to it, unless someone beats me to it.
I have a fricken bad memory, so I will probably forget, I generally forget to do things all kinds of things, like the time I was meant to put the handbrake on![]()
hey i have a vs and i just done a manual conversion on my car but i have a vr flywheel in it and now im having trouble with a starter motor, i just brought a manual for a vs and it sounds like the gears aint messing right so is it due to the vr flywheel or will a vs flywheel fix it or get a vr starter motor
I bought a starter for the vx the other day, on the box it says VN to VY.
AUTOBARN!!!! i went there asking prices the other day... $149 Brand New...
