My ABS light came on did the error codes and it came up with code 28, i know that it the wheel speed sensor frequency but what does that mean and how do i fix it.
im not too familar with abs errors,
i cant get to my manual atm but it sounds like the abs sensor is screwed. if this is the case, ur up for a new wheel hub.
I had a quick look in my manual but i couldn't really work it out, im gonna take it back to the place that did the breaks and tyres and tell them to fix because im pretty sure its there fault i was just hoping it would be something simple if you could let me know if you find anything the would be greatly appreciated it would be nice to go in there with a bit of knowledge about my problem. cheers thanks
if u think it happend only after u had a brake and tyre change, they could have damaged one of the abs wires from the back of the wheel hubs. before u go back in there and blast em, jump under the front and rear wheels of ur car and have a look at the wires.
the fronts will be behind the hub, close to where it bolts to the suspension. it shouldnt be damaged in anyway, follow it up from the hub to where it goes to/thru the guard. it still should be plugged in
rears, ur sensors are mounted on the back of the diff, and plugs into plugs above the diff if u can see up there or feel.
i suspect it would be the fronts giving the message, but let use know how they look
yer ill jump under it tomorrow and have a look, i did have a quick look this arvo and it all looked fine and the front felt ok but i didnt jack it up and get right under so ill do that in the morning, cheers for the help and ill let ya know.
yea cool, im guessing one or em is unplugged hopefully. if u cant see it jacked up, u may have to rip off the wheels. good luck
yer im hoping its something simple i figure it cant be anything to much, thanks again mate
I jumped under the car today and everything looks good so i have no idea, i took some pictures off my phone, any other suggestions? cheers

hi guys did you only get 2 new tyres or 4 . if you only got 2 the overall tyre rotating diameter could be different and the wheel speed sensors will read different speeds . this is a common problem when u get a flat when running 20,s and have to use original spare
yer i only got the rears done they are 225/60-R16 and the fronts are 215/55-R16 but they are the same size as the old ones
hi dan if the front tyres are fairly worn the wheel speed will be different from front to rear if u know anyone with a diagnostic scanner with live data capabilities plug it in and take it for a drive see if the wheel speeds are different by more than 10 percent that could be a problem
I dont think i know anyone but the fronts are getting low, it only started happening after i got the tyres and brakes done so i think ill just have to take it back and get them to have a look, thanks for the help though im not real up with all this sensor electrical stuff my last and first car was a vl sl so it didnt have alot of this stuff. If that is it what do i do about it?
ok, just looking at ur tyre sizes, the difference between 225/60/15 and 215/55/15 is 5.9%
i think this is where the problem is. u have too much of a tyre size difference for the ABS system to handle. check out this website Tire size calculator and whack in ur tyre sizes to see the effects.
if u can, get another set the same as the fronts or rears, and i bet it'll disappear.
right i did read something bout that on here somewhere but i just figured that wasn't it because they are the same size as the ones that were on it before and it never did it, just a quick off topic one if i change the rears size do i have to get the speedo and that recalibrated
use that calculater i posted, drop in the stock tyre size 205/65/15 then the tyre size ur thinking of, and it will give u how much ur speedo will be out bybookmark that site!
i had a quick play on that its good isn't it, but i didnt change the size of my tyres they have been like that since i bought it a year ago and i never saw the abs light in that time only since the tyre guy put the new ones on so im not sure that thats it but ill try any theory.
ok the other thing u have to do, is remove the + lead from the battery, turn ur headlights on to drain any leftover charge in the circut, connect it back up again and check that the codes are clear, both engine codes and abs. go for a drive tomorrow and see if the light comes on again and check the codes again at the end of the day or week. this will tell you if its a new or old code.
its wierd thats its only just happend, but a theory.. coz u have new tyres, with another say 8mm more tread than worn tyres so it could be just enough to trigger the abs code.. hope that makes sense
yer it does mate thats a good idea, i gotta go shopping tomorrow so ill pull the + lead off before i go and check the errors when i get home. cheers
Ok i pulled the + lead off the battery and turned the lights on left it off for 30-45mins and then put it back on, before i even drove anywhere i checked the error codes and it still came up with code 28, was the time not long enough to clear them or ???
nar u did everything right, i dont believe the abs has a backup system?
thats weird, maybe someone else has some answers?
cool i thought it was funny, i dunno either, im thinking i should just take it back to the tyre bloke or i have to go and get a major service done so maybe i should get him to have a look.
Just thought i would let ya's know i put four tyres with 215/60/R15 on this arvo went for a drive and it seems like its all good, so it was the difference between the front and rear tyres causing error code 28 on my car, yay its fixed
sweet, thanks for posting back with an updateglad we could help you out.
