Default $740 of work to do

got the VR into midas today and having the injectors done, inlet maifold gasket replaced, couple of O rings around. Coolant flush, thermo, gasket, all holden genuine parts. That seem right for that work to be done?

If you don't want to do that stuff yourself you have no option but pay whatever they want you to pay. But it would have cost not much over 100 bucks and a few hours to do yourself

Inlet Manifold Gasket = $50 Parts
    O-Rings = $15bucks Total
    New Coolant = $40
    Thermo Gasket = $15

Lets say around $120ish for all parts. That leaves you with $630 in labour...

Using Holden parts isn't always a great idea. I bought a fuel rail o-ring from holden once, $10.. for an o-ring.

In future, buy a repair manual + aftermarket parts and save yourself a billion dollars in being ripped off.

$630 is the price you pay for convienence. Hope its worth it.

I believe the average is $100-$110 an hour currently, more of a reason to do the work yourself and drink two cartons of beer whilst in the process

ok. got the car back today. everything seems ok under bonnet. nice and clean; new coolant, joiner fittings, inlet manifold set, injector change over, O ring seals, O ring seal for the fuel rail, thermostat. only problem was wheni got home. went out to start it again, and it spulttered a bit then started. drove around some more, stopped. went back to the car and expected it to have a bit of a problem starting and turn the key and BOOM. she goes dont even hear it trying to crank. starts immediatley. taking it back friday but is there something that couldve changed it after that work?

mehh, after i job like that your it's going to take some time for your computer to get to know all the new parts and calibrate itself ... I assume your mechanic did reset the computer, clear your codes etc.
Seriously if it don't happen again and it starts like BOOM from now on there's nothing wrong.

Every car is like that. Cold they are harder to start, and once warm they will fire straight up. Nothing to worry about there...

I got quotes from Holden and Repco when I replaced mine, and the prices were similar. That said, there are two types of gaskets: 3 separate o-ring style gaskets for the older models (not a technical explanation, but they are what I was quoted for), and the newer models had a one piece solid gasket. That may explain part of the price difference, but I wouldn't expect a price difference that large!
