Got another problem with my Senator. Seems to be never ending at the moment. Got a flatspot up to 2000rpm. It feels like its starving for fuel and then away it goes. I've changed plugs, fuelfilter, had the Carbonkleen done and even put some additive in the tank. Been in the shop twice and still the same. Apparently the harmonic ballancer has moved on the rubber, so the timing is set close by the mechanic, seems pretty good anyhow. This seems more common when the car is cold but comes and goes when its warm. Any ideas where to look next?
IF the harmonic balancer has moved i'd be replacing it, before it moves through your bonnet....
Any error codes ? New mechanic perhaps ?
if you have done all that then it sounds like it could be your dizzy. Try replacing the cap and the leads first, then the whole thing.
I havn't checked for any error codes, the paper clip thing seems a bit dodgy, prob isn't just sounds a bit like a farmers fix. I will be replacing the harmonic balancer then look at the cap and leads. What can go wrong inside the dizzy?
If the metal electrodes inside the dizzy cap have lots of white ash on them, looks kind a like a hot spot.. this can reduce the power of the spark getting to the plugs. Same on the rotor button itself. The backyard fix is to scrape it off, or just buy a new cap.
Oh, and the paper clip trick is a Godsend, brilliant cencept actually. All it does is make a light on your dash flash, there's not much to it.
Will look in the dizzy early next week, working days all weekend. Then I might chuck a clip in and see what pops up. Cheers
dizzy has you hall effects sensor inside aswell as you hv stuff so there is plenty to go wrong in it.
Thanks for the replys fellas. Still havn't had a chance to look into whats wrong with this car. Seems to run well if you just get the revs past 2k quick smart.. can be interesting whith the wet weather were having.
Anyhow the cars in the Panel shop at the mo some bastard tried to force open the drivers window, scratched the tint and put a coin down the drivers side when they couldn't get in. Ain't it funny what some people do for kicks?
Chucked the paper clip in this morning and got a 12 and a 31. I don't think its a sensor problem. I am gunna rip the dizzy cap off when the motors cooled down and put some new leads on. Getting closer to fixing this i reckon.![]()
OK, so what does 31 = on a V8 ?
Something about the alarm. I would have to have another look at the list.
Code 31 - Theft Deterrent Signal missing
I think you must have read the code incorrectly. If you had a 31 you would not have been able to start your car at all.
is that a v8 code or v6 code, cause im sure they are different, either way that dosnt sound right. Like above if its theft deterent then the car wont start at all or if it some how lost it while driving then it would just stall dead.
Just Commodores - For All Your Holden Commodore Needs
This is where I got my code descriptions from. Car starts and runs Ok. Just not as smooth as it should. I may disconnect the battery for a while and try again to see if its an old code, otherwise![]()
