I have just recently pulled the engine and gearbox out of my vs wagon and put another motor in with the same auto transmission. Both the cars are late model vs v6 but i did notice the motor i put in my wagon had vs 11 written on the side of the motor. I have got the car started and it seems to idle fine but when i accelerate its like the engine wants to die/running rough and when you drive it tends to backfire a bit as well. I am not sure if i am suppose to change the computer????
If anyone may have an idea please help
Cheers Mick
Sounds like something isn't connected properly. You shouldn't need to change the ECU. Is the MAF plugged in properly? Are the clamps done up tight?
i changed the maf before tightened it all up and its still doing the same thing
Got me buggered!!!
Could be a coincidence, how's your fuel pump?
i have been thinking it may be that i am unsure of the condition of the fuel pump the car itself has done approx 450,000ks
If it is the fuel pump would it cause it to backfire?
there also is a hose connected to the transmission on the top near where it joins to the motor that goes near the steering rack that goes into the body and it just sits in the hole is this correct???
i think its called a breather pipe
Yep, that's just a breather. And yes, a dodgy fuel pump can cause it to back fire.
thanks for your help ill change the fuel pump and ill let you know how i go
Cheers Mick
how do you tell if your fuel pump is working correctly???
it is making that noise when i first turing the key on
The only real way to be sure is with a fuel pressure gauge. Just because it makes the noise doesn't mean it is pumping at full pressure.
change the the whole coil pack and dfi over off the old engine and the 2 pin coolant sensor see if it helps
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
i changed the coil pack and the coolant sensor but the problem is still there but when you first start the car its fine but after 5 to 10sec after start its starts again so defintly thinking its the fuel pump getting a new one tommorow hoping its that
Another problem i have encoutered is when i put my foot on the brake pedal my parker lights, dash lights, number plate lights come on???
Any ideas????
i fixed the problem with the engine one of the fuel pipes in the back of the engine was not put in properly and was sucking air.
Only problem now is when i put my foot on the brakes the parkers/dash lights and number plate lights come on any ideas anyone???
blown brake globe or a single filament bulb where a double filament bulb should be in the brake lights
