hey guys, last week or so my car has'nt been turning over. it'll take like 10 or 20 tries before it winds over...
when i try it just makes one loud "Tick" sound and thats it... doesnt do anything else...
what could this be??
P.s it's not battery or key...
The click is from the solenoid on the starter motor, so either battery or the starter motor.
i have cleaned out the solenoid before on a friends car but that was a temp fix
definitely solenoid contacts, you can either buy a new solenoid or you can get a solenoid cap kit which replaces all the bits inside the solenoid. new solenoid would be easier but the solenoid kit could be cheaper but can be a little tricky if you dont know what you are doing.
make sure all connections are tight too
Starter motor or you put a conrod through the block (Speaking from experience)

my vr wagon used to do that quite a bit. so all i used to do was turn the key to on (last click before you try and start it) unclip the black wire connector between the battery and the starter motor, get a screw driver into the purple wire connector from the starter motor, and put it on (i think) the red battery terminal and bang... starts it every time.
hasnt done it in about 2 years though. not that i drive it much anymore.
hey guys thanks for your input yeah i was tld by my father who is a mechannic that it's starter solenoid..
is this hard to replace myself??.....cause i hate other people working on my car....
also it aint conrod cause it will start every now and then... (maybe every 15 try's...)
thanks
try and change the complete starter as its a bit tricky plus you will be suprised how cheap thay r (i
havent priced one recently) the best way is to lift the car up un plug the batt take the 2 rack bolts out
pull this to the back to get it out you dont have to do any more the the rack as this is to get room to pull
the starter out then i think thay r 2 15 or 16mm bolts to hold the starter in un plug it and thats it
just make shoure that every thing is tight when it gos back to gether
Just had a new starter installed, $325
Cheap
wow....anyone know the price for a solenoid??.....
the thing you do is get it trade thats rrp its over the top for a price
Most of us have to pay RRP. If you can get trade, even better
