god I hate my sons car, that being said he needs some help, here's the story so far, car has been to Holdens and had the following repairs performed, Starter motor replaced, Clutch Cable replaced, Crank Angle Sensor replaced, all was going well till the radiator went phooey, new radiator installed, water pump went phooey, water pump replaced, new pedal box installed, all good for a couple of days now new problems have arisen here's the list.
1) car overheats when driving through the Macca's drive-thru, didn't do that before
2) 4th & 5th gear car chuggs under acceleration but only when hot
3) squeaking noise coming from the gearbox area stops if you push the clutch pedal in a bit or pull it out a bit with your hand.
the car has the best coolant on the market in it with water wetter added, the CAS has been changed really can't see it being that but then again maybe, squeaky noise who knows maybe the spazoid mouse is dying.
IAC has been changed, battery reconnected and held at 2500rpm for 30 seconds to reset the IAC.
call me stupid but the ignition leads are my main suspect for the chugging, 4 of them are 9.0mm and 2 are 8.0mm, have done a test on them one 8mm lead read between 1.86 and 8.75k ohms 1 of the 9mm ones read between 2.65 and 15.93, time for new ones I reckon.
any other ideas on this set of problems
Cheers

1. the over heating issue i believe is just some air trapped in the system, coz u've recently changed the waterpump and fluid. make sure the heater is on also, let it idle and reach operating temp. u'll know when the thermostat opens the top hose will get hot. once its opened, turn the screw on the top of the thermostat housing a bit, and it should start to spit air bubbles, when its a constant stream tighten and it should be good to go.
2. i suspect ur correct with the leads being at fault. might be a good time to purchase plugs also and change them too. perferably change all leads at the same time and same diameter also. dont think the sizes should play a part, but is best to keep everything standard.
3. dont know much on the manual boxes, but does it sound like it does it at any speed or at specific rpm? could need a lil wd40 on the linkages.
Hi, thanks for the info on the radiator, i'm old skool car and know buckleys and none about these but believe me with his bloody car i'm learning fast, plugs and leads are a definate this week as for the squeak it only does it at idle, go figure, will lube the thing up tommorow, it has a heavy duty clutch in it and i'm a bit worried that the clutch fork could have bent and everything could be out of whack.
Cheers

if there is no squeak there when the car is in motion, i doubt its the clutch fork. u will know if it is, i dont think it would have bleed up right if it was bent. we had troubles with a mates patrol, they put the clutch in backwards n ****ed it good, wouldnt bleed up, then they checked it n it was that.
It's something to do with the clutch...maybe it not adjusted right? You say you can pull the clutch pedal out a bit with your hand? This would prob be the spring on the clutch pedal that's not installed properly or broken. I was thinking input shaft bearing but they don't normally squeak when they are warn, it's mainly a knocking bearing noise.
I would readjust the clutch pedal and see how you go.
i've read up on adjustment for the cable but can't find anything on the clutch pedal, I even have the official holden VR-VS service manual they use in their service centres but nothing tells me about pedal adjustment.

You should have it in there. Here you go anyway...
Here is the Clutch Pedal Assembly posted by another member awhile ago.
G'day sqeak from the clutch area that goes away with foot on or lifting the pedal sounds like thrust bearing to me sounds like it is just resting on the pressure plate, adjustment should fix it

Thanks Guys, squeak has gone thanks to some WD40, clutch has been adjusted thanks for the headsup WAVEZ, i'm a bit old school and adjustments used to be done at both ends of the cable, didn't realise it was done all from the gearbox end on these, the leads really bother me though, you just don't mix and match different sizes of wire IMO, you wouldn't do it on any other job, so, replacing them is the go with the same size and manufacturer, thanks for the headsup on that BLACKVXGTS, the radiator is done so thanks for the headsup on that EPHECT, helpful as always and much appreciated.
Cheers

I hear voices in my head and they don't like you
