    Default vr v6 manual conversion

    Hi there all

    My auto trans went today

lucky it went into limp mode and got me to the mechanics..

anywayz i thought i could use this as an excuse to the missus to do a manual conversion.

So i am chasing a complete conversion kit... my mates dad is a mechanic and it looks like he will convert it for me if i paint the outside of his house.. (sounds good to me)

I have read all the posts i can find and i am so confused it is unbelieveable. First i read i need to change over the ecu then read i didn't.. then i read i need a new bell housing.. then i read i didn't..

at the moment i am just chasing the parts i need but i have found these couple

Holden Commodore, VS 04/95-08/97, V6 Manual Gearbox - eBay Manual Transmission, Transmission, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 13-Sep-09 10:24:08 AEST)

    and

commodore vs 5 speed manual complete - Car Parts for Sale - Gumtree Adelaide Free Classifieds

the bottom 1 is minus the box cause he has sold it...

but because it is a vs box it would need the new ecu???? if i find a vr manual do i need to replace the ecu???

    any advice would be great

    thanks

    scott

if you follow the guide in the HOWTO forum you wont HAVE to change the ECU, but if you get a suitable ECU in your conversion, just put it in.

At the end of the day, at least get the auto computer tweaked my greenfoam or delcowizard to remove the auto codes.

You will need the bellhousing for the gearbox, and be carefull if buying a VS setup, especially if it comes without the box, as the VS series two used the getrag with a hydrolic clutch, i'd say it'd be allot of dicking around to get a hydrolic clutch setup to work on the T5

You only need to change the ECU if you want a speedo. I'm still running same auto computer and loom and only problem is that I don't have a speedo.

The bell housing should be on the manual gearbox, nothing fancy there.

The best option is to find a wrecked manual and pull all the bits out of it.

Just keep on reading it will clear up eventually

vs flywheel will bolt up to the vr engine but does not have the balance weights fitted.
A late vn to vr is what you want to find.
If you do get the vs one then you need to try and swap the flywheel for someone who has a earlier one.
Check the rubber boots in the conversion aswell they are get hard to find and expensive.

if you have teed into the right wire you will have speedo just the ecu wont see speedo pulses but the dash will still work fine obviously you dont have the wire from the VSS connected to the right wire at the ecu
