g'day, im new here so dont be too mean with all the stupid questions
ive got a 1996 vs ute with a manual box, and was wondering whether it had an lsd from factory or not?
ive read something about a tag on the fill hole, mine has this tag, but it doesnt drive like an LSD (single peggers!!).
could it just beor just never had one.
cheers for any help
If it says LSD on the tag, but only drops half a skid, it sounds like the clutch packs are gonskies.

from memory, the tag says "use high performance lubricant only" or something similar.
by model you mean what series it is? on the tailgate it says series 2 but the lack of air con has me confused as ive heard that all series 2 vs's had air con.
but that was from the same person who told me that they all have LSD's...
danja, i think you're onto it with the non existent clutch packs, its done 230 odd k's so id expect it to be worn a fair bit.
jack the rear end up, place gearstick in nutral, spin one wheel, if the wheels spin in the same direction u have an lsd, if the spin opposite, its a single pegger.
as danja said, if it says LSD on the tag, and only singles, ur LSD is in need of an overhaul.
haha its just the poverty pack one, but i got 3 seats so thats kinda cool, just for a really comfy armrest anyway.
yeah i put it up on the hoist the other day, they were spinning oppositei dont know if i can be stuffed taking the cover off and having a look. its only a v6

it's an open wheeler. an LSD will have 'Use only approved LSD oil' or something along those lines.
and if the wheels span opposite it is an open wheeler.
it just confused me about the tag that said use high performance oil... definitely not what i would call a high performance car haha.
dont be fooled by the high performance tag, just means the diff gears have been shot peaned, just how they strengthen the diff, and requires the oil for longgevity (sp)
I have a similar question, any time at the farm it definitly spins two wheels, but when on the hoist One wheel spins opposite when rotating the wheels by hand.
Also Dyer, Welcome to the forum, your another local, theres a few memebrs from Sale and area around here. Also if your who I assume, you live just round the corner haha.
yeah mine spins two on the gravel also, it just might be because the low traction makes it easier for both sides to spin, regardless of the power each wheel gets... but im not sure.
ah thats probably me, i live in the place with the sheds and big lights haha.
