    Default VR Diff/Tailshaft????

Ok great forum done a search and could not find much on my problems. My car is an AUTO S2 VR WAGON
    .
    Problems

1/. When changing gears I get a Thumping sound from behind... Not all the time and sometimes all the time... its getting worse. Tailshaft? Diff?? One day I feel that its going to do one big bang and the arse of my car will be left on the road.

2/. Twice now it has made a very bad vibrating sound from behind, Take the foot of the gas and it goes away... Something to do with the thumping???

3/. Maybe the suspension but the car has started rattling badly, the suspension seems very stiff, is this expensive to fix on a VR? The roof really rattles....

    Thanks in advance..

May be the centre bearing shagged - check by getting under car and try to move the propeller shaft (tailshaft) - the bearing and it's mount should not move.

I can slightly move the tailshaft, not a lot tho, I also forgot to mention when I reverse out my drive then put it in Drive I get a high PING sound...

As maldotcom2 says, it could be the transmission or rear engine mount either sheared or soft from being saturated in oil. This allows the rear of the transmission to move about.

The pinging is your Uni Joints, costs bout $20-50 each and theres 2 of em, one at each end of your tail shaft.

Not hard to change, might be causing the thumping too if they are really ****ed, on my old car they were so ****ed they caused the tail shaft to vibrate badly.
