Default problem earthing aldl on vr v8(under the glove box)

hi i want to adjust my idle air control valve on my vr v8 but when i earth the aldl under the glove box nothing seems to happen i was told the engine light should come on but it doesn't in my manual it says to earth the top right hand wire which is supposed to be black and white but mine is white there is a black wire underneath it tried earthing either of them but nothing happens..is something meant to happen when i earth it out???????...my revs don't seem to drop as well as it sez in the manual my revs should drop...what to do!!!please help!!!i also read that once i have earthed it out i should remove the iac valve wires and bring the revs up to 2000rpm for 8 seconds to make it re tune it and then drop the revs to 500-550rpm with idle screw then turn off and plug iac valve back in and remove earth from aldl..is this correct please help me...i dont want to have to take it to holden as i am a porper....

should just bridge the top 2 middle pins that are side by side they will be the only 2 with metal bits in the holes just put the ends of as a paper clip in each one.you need a pretty accurate way to measure rpm as well the dash rev counter isnt the best too use for it but will get you close dont even bother unplugging the IAC take the air pipe off and block the hole in the throttlebody slowly with your finger then adjust base idle screw with your other hand or follow the manual if you want to unplug the IAC i think its turn key on with pins bridged dont start the car then unplug IAC and start the car.make sure you have the timing set at 10 degrees as well before resetting the idle speed

There are eight pins on the top row. You need to bridge pins 5 & 6 according to the service manual.

i was under the impression that i had to do it at the passanger side(the same one you have to earth out when you do the timing)... maybe not from what you r sayn its the one under the steering wheel i know how to earth that one out....

the one under the stearing is the one you use for doing base timing as well.the only plug by the ecu for doing that is on the VN and VP ecu's not VR onwards

what ....fair enough my manual covers a few models so that would explain alot so i just bridge 5-6 to do timing aswell...well there you go...so whats the other plug for?

if there has been any faults they will flash out the check engine light with the same two terminals bridged and the ignition on engine not running

by rights you shouldnt really ever need to adjust the throttlebody set screw unless you have pulled the cable attachment off the top of the shaft of it or have just got a larger throttlebody put on.

oh i just looked to the right by your name is it a 355 with a cam or something.definately needs some adjustment if its idling at 1200 unless it has a cam and they are trying too keep it idling or has a tune with raised idle youll soon find out if it needs to idle that high

it was probably stalling all the time or something so they have cheated and bumped up the idle with the screw which isnt the best thing too do.PM greenfoam for a nice new memcal then you can set the base idle normal and gain some power too.maybe check the memcal in the ecu it may have been tuned allready its the blue thing inside the ecu with the chip in it.if its stock it would have a silver sticker on it but surely being 355 it isnt a stock memcal in there still one would hope not anyway

it has a custum chip done for it by electronic automotive they had the car for the day and tuned it... i think i should take it back to them and see what they say its been a year since they did it maybe stuff has changed its just that i have to pay reg this coming week and hav many bills and want to try fix the revs my self..everyone sez its idleing to high and i tried to drop the revs but it just doesnt happen i was told i have to reset the iac valve...

if you have shut the screw and revs didnt drop its probably tuned like that in the custom tune put you finger over the hole inside the throttlebody its about the size of your finger if the revs drop heaps or it stalls its set like that in the tune or the iac is dead most likely set like that in the tune.resetting the iac is easy dissconnect battery for a minute reconnect then start car and hold revs above 2000rpm straight away when it starts hold it above 2000 for 10 seconds its all reset.
