Hi, I seem to have a problem with my VS commodores power steering.
on startup, it makes a groaning noise when i turn the wheel, but it goes away completely after 5-10 mins of driving when everything warms up.
anyone had this problem? ive heard its common but noone knows a solution to it
It 'may' simply be the grommet that the steering shaft passes thru at the firewall - this gets dry with time and a squirt of WD40 will stop the groan. Best way to access this is from under the car looking up under the master cylinder. This problem is very common and earns a lot of unscrupulous mech's easy money.
yep id be lubing up that grommit first before i looked at the pump.
i had the dreadful moaning noise when i took off out of my street so i just smeared a heap of grease between the steering shaft and the rubber.... problem solved
I had the same problem, sprayed some WD40 from inside the car at the grommet where the steering shaft goes through the fire wall. Fixed
thanks for the heads up guys
