    Default Getrag Strength

Hi all first post for me well ive got a series 3 vs ute and its been converted from auto to manual with a getrag box fitted im doing a turbo upgrade and wondering how far people have pushed the getrag box?

I had a 95 vs ute which i built up as a drift car had a t5 and it only lasted bout 6 months once my motor was built (4.2 come racing stroked motor and exedy drift clutch) i think it did pretty well considering i was clutch kicking the **** out of it daily lol i ended up getting a tremec t5 imported from the states and all up cost me 6 grand to get it in i dont want to do that again.

I plan on giving it a fairly hard time as i mainly use the car for drifting so im wondering how much power have getrags seen and held up with?

I am not sure you would want to be thrashing the shit out of it as its quite expensive to replace but i reckon it should cope alright with a bit of abuse. Just not heaps. So if your gonna be racing factor in a new clutch or two.

VT 5 litres that run the getrag box used to gt pretty noisy when thrashed around consistantly... your best bet would of been to get the T5 rebuilt with stronger internals... costs about 3 grand but worth it

People keep saying the Getrag box isn't very strong but I haven't pushed mine very far.
Another option is to use the Tremec t56 gear box but they can be costly as well.

Try and see how long it lasts for.

if your gonna go through clutchs then the fact you can cheaply relace the T5's has got to be a factor compared to the getrag's.
