hey guys... i have 2 sets of 3.8L heads...
first up... i read on here VN VP VR VS heads are all interchangable??... is this right..
also what are the benifit's of porting/polishing the heads? (like acceleration, reliability, horsepower) etc etc..
how much would it be?
and can i do it myself?...
not sure bout v6 vs but im pretty sure n/p/r would be as they are the same motor. And as for porting and polishing im doin the same to some 5ltr heads atm but im still diggin for info on all this. As luck for me would have it foamy is doin some heads now and documenting it. So check the link in his sig for some general info. Heres a link i been lookin at but arnt alot of help.

I'm gonna get myself a nice rotary tool to do this i think. Its gonna be the most practicle thing to do it with since i dont have a big compressor at home and i cant see my neighbours lovin a compressor running for hours on end
ahh ok.. yeah like a dremel?...
I'm fairly sure the ecotec heads are not interchangable. Fairly sure the water jackets are different, plus a few other things probably.
Porting heads on the early V6 will give you more gain than any other single mod, ecotec heads bolt on but you need a custom cam and custom manifold made to make them work so that's out of the picture for 99% of people. Port another set of VR heads. An air power die grinder is what you use for the most part and a dremel for the fine stuff comes in handy. If you are rich a Makita, Bosch and co electric die grind is the go ($300ish)
And port them but DONT polish them to a mirror finish

It's beyond any amatures skill level to polish cast iron anywaysalot harder to do than you would imagine
i wouldnt port heads unless u r planning 2 boost compression aswell cause bigger runners needs bigger comp to work properly . porting also makes u lose bottom end power wich gives u more mid rang to top end then the standard cam is no longer any good 4 u
