And as for porting and polishing im doin the same to some 5ltr heads atm but im still diggin for info on all this. As luck for me would have it foamy is doin some heads now and documenting it. I'm gonna get myself a nice rotary tool to do this i think. Its gonna be the most practicle thing to do it with since i dont have a big compressor at home and i cant see my neighbours lovin a compressor running for hours on end

i was actually thinking more electric die grinder, somthin with a bit of balls. But a small dremel will be needed to do some of the nooks n crannies.

I'm fairly sure the ecotec heads are not interchangable. Fairly sure the water jackets are different, plus a few other things probably.

Porting heads on the early V6 will give you more gain than any other single mod, ecotec heads bolt on but you need a custom cam and custom manifold made to make them work so that's out of the picture for 99% of people. Port another set of VR heads. An air power die grinder is what you use for the most part and a dremel for the fine stuff comes in handy. If you are rich a Makita, Bosch and co electric die grind is the go ($300ish)

i wouldnt port heads unless u r planning 2 boost compression aswell cause bigger runners needs bigger comp to work properly . porting also makes u lose bottom end power wich gives u more mid rang to top end then the standard cam is no longer any good 4 u
