Hey all.
As the title suggests, I have indeed got a sticky ignition. Prolly one out of every 20 turns, the key'll get stuck in the 'on' position.
A few months back I dropped the car in to Holden to get a new barrel/ignition-switch. When I got it back, the bloke told me to "watch the ignition, coz' it's sticky & if the key is left in the 'on' position you'll burn out your starter". Well, lo & behold - guess what happened???
So I've just replaced the brushes on the starter, & now I wanna fix the ignition problem. I'm a bit sketchy on pulling apart the ignition due to all the electrics & immobiliser etc. My dad reckons I should shoot some WD40 down the key-hole, but the idea doesn't sit right with me ... any suggestions?
Cheers.
Joe.
I wonder wheather its the slides getting caught in the barrel or the switch at the rear hmmm.
Try lube first as its the simplest task then if it does not yeald results go the harder tasks ,buy some graphite grease (dry glide etc..) as its better than wd40 in the lock because wd40 etc will catch dust and make a mud grease pit.
Heres some help for the harder options.
How to remove a stuck ignition barrel VN-VS
Cheers bro, legend. So jetting some WD40 down the keyhole wont kill it?
Whats the deal with the slides and/or switch?
You'd think holden would return the ****in thing in good order, seing as how they charge like wounded bulls. Go figure ...
Anyway, cheers dude. Champion.
Na no reciept. I've moved house since then anyway ... otherwise I'd be swinging by the shop to vent my spleen & visit gods wrath on the knob who did it. He'd be changing my ignition, again, for free - with a set of broken thumbs and a rooted starter-motor lodged in his lower colon.
...but I digress - I've had a squiz & know what/where the switch is, but it's new - therefore good, right? If I drop it in to a pro, what can they do about it? Will I be up for a new ignition barrel?
powder graphite i find is usually good for locks dude just put some on the key slowly put it in then just work it... wow kinda sounds filthy but you get the idea
