heys guys i just put a new alternator in and all was fine, its mounted corecctly as far as i know and went to put the belt back on and it seems really loose.i know this sounds silly,so i got a picture of a motor and hooked the belt up the way the pic had it and its still rather loose.it sits in the grooves of the alternator and the other weels on the front of the motor but seems looser than when i first took it off.
im stumped please help thanks

is the pulley the same size as the old alternator, and did you get the right engine pic as your engine, must be doing doing something wrong

Is it the same belt that came off ?
if its a new belt it might be the wrong belt
Had something similar to a friends VT took off the belt and tried to replace with a new one. New belt was wrong type and the other belt didn't fit at all so we were also stumped, turnes out the old belt is way stretched and just doesn't fit.
If it's fair old change it.
ok guys ive checked the pic and all is well but the bel is old and yes maybe has streched im gunna buy an new new 2mora,should be right then thanks all for your help.

Hey mate iv had a simmilar problem on my v6 vt, really doing my head in because iv changed all bearings, tensioner pully and airconditioning pump along with a new belt but nothing takes this squeking away!
As soon as i spray wd40 on the belt, even just a little bit the noise goes away, but only for 5-10 minutes...
Has anyone had this problem>? any solutions?
someone posted something about rubbing hand soap on the belt about a week ago. try searching for that.
Where is the noise coming from? Was the parts replaced new? Lube inside the tensioner or replace bearings.
I had this same problem had all the bearings and pulleys checked over and nothing helped. Turns out they may have started changing what they make the belts out of coz alot of people are having problems with squeaking belts. I use CRC Silicon Spray, buy it from supercheap or something like that, costs about 16 bucks. Fancy lubricant, it seems that the belt almost grips too well, I tired using belt grip coz I thought the belt was slipping at first and it only made it worse. Seems that making the belt more "moist" and "supple" by form of a good lubricant makes the belt stay quiet, worked for me mine hasnt squeaked for like 2 months. Just spray the silicon spray all over the belt and pulleys, then just rub it into the belt itself with ya hands and wipe off any excess. Worked for me.
just wondering if the serpentine belt off my 99 vt will fit my 95 vs? or are they different sizes? the belt on my vt is squealing like a bitch and i checked all the pulleys and they seem fine, i just wanted to know if i could swap the belts over to see it it was the belt before i go buy a new one
hey i replaced my power steering pump & harmonic balancer refitted those no drama, but now ive put the belt back on cranked it over and it seems that the belt is slipping on one of the pulleys?. any suggestions?. i think a new belt will help except dont wanna buy one and find out that isnt the cause. any help would be appreciated
Just a tip for some of the guys with the dryish unsolvable squeak, I had a similiar problem that was the water pump bearing behind the pulley.
