Fitted a CAS from Repco about a year ago and its dead. 1Year is bull crap IMO.It was made in Mexico just like the original genuine ones.
Should I buy a genuine one or another Repco one or is there a better brand out there?![]()
I remember someone on the forums once saying that if your shooting through new ones like that, that there is a reason.
Maybe a looooooooong and deep search of the forums is in order, sorry.
why has my car had the same one for 3+ years? and who knows how long before that?
mine hasnt been touched in the 10 years i've owned her.
sorry greenacc, i have no idea, but i would go genuine, u've tried aftermarket.
Go genuine.
Got mine put in on the 08-09-07.
All good.

its nice to know i'm not the only one who has CAS troubles. Funny thing is i'm positive the original one lasted for about 230 000 k's. Then i stupidly changed it with a repco one when i had code 47 which turned out to be the coil, so the cas might have been ok.
Now i had another dud coil, replaced coil, all good for few days then my cas died !! i'm starting to wonder if coils and cas's kill each other ?
Anyway, bought a genuine cas today ...$118 ouch, and will put it in tomorrow and hope it lasts another 200000k's.
sorry for stupid question but whats a CAS , sounds like something i should educate myself on
crank angle sensor ... he lives behind the harmonic balancer. he sends signals to your ignition to set the spark timing. When it dies you car stops. can be very embarassing when this happens in peak hour on main road .![]()
so do they just *die* and not work any more or do they start playing up and give warning signs.
usually get warning signs for a couple of days like running real rough, hard to start etc. mine was giving me more error codes than a lotto draw so I (stupidly) kept on driving hoping it would make the weekend ... also waiting for it to die completely so it would be easier to diagnose. and yeah, i got my diagnosis in the middle lane in peak hour lol.
....thats the best time, more people too help you push![]()
The VL straight 6 has a crank angle sensor. Mine played up for months until it finally died. Back then, a genuine for the VL was worth $440 from Holden or about $600 from NissanI got an aftermarket 1 for under $200 and it only lasted a couple of years before replacing it and selling the VL a few months later.
Had my VR V6 for almost 3 years and not had a problem with the CAS yet.
$440 seems very dear.
Have you got a part number by any chance???

put my new CAS in today , all good so far.
Interesting to note that the old repco cas and the new genuine one are EXACTLY the same. in which case holden is charging double what Repco is for the exact same part ...
Gday all,
Changed my CAS, started great twice, then would not start when cold. Poured boiling water on it and it fired up straight away, its coming out and fitting a genuine one, gonna see the rep who supplied the replacement, not happy Jan. Was getting error codes 46,47 and 49.
The reverse used to be true with these things, would not work when hot so dump cold water on them, bingo away you go. So if your ever in a bind and get similar error codes when cold try the hot water trick. It will get ya moving.
was it made in Mexico or somewhere else ?
So far my genuine one starts in a split second , but i still say they are the same as the Repco one...
I'm wondering how many factories in the world would be geared up to produce these things. One? Three? Seventy nine? Probably one. Probably make them for about 14 pesos each.
I bought my replacement (last April) from an Autopro store. It came in a Champion box, and looked exactly like the original one I took off. The box doesn't say where it was made, it says 'Packed in Australia'.
I've seen them on E-bay for $50, sold without any packaging, just comes in a plastic bag, or something like that. The one in the photo on E-bay looks just like the one I bought.
Maybe quality control is not great, which is why we are hearing different stories on how long they are lasting. I haven't had any trouble with mine, touch wood.
It is written on the part itself where it is made. And the genuine box says made in USA, and it says made in Mexico on the cas lol.
