    Default mods questions

I am asking these questions for my neiphew who has just brought himself a real nice well looked after VS / V6 comy, he wants to tickle it up as he can afford it, I told him he should have just brought a V8 and be done with it if he wants the extra power, but anyway he's got about $800 so far which is burning a hole in his pocket and wants to spend it.

So here are the questions, Cold air intake , which is the best setup & are they worth it & do you get much gain in power ?
Pace maker extractors only [at this time the rest later] he got 2 prices first $ 680 & the other $600 [ both fitted ] & will this give him much more power and would it change the sound of the exhaust with the extractors only ?
The last one is Roller Rocker Upgrade Kits, do they make a huge differance in power & which is the best kit ?, and are they hard to fit or would he need a mechanic to do it ?
What i can make of it all, he just want more grunt when taken off form a start.
With your experience were would you guys start if it was you doing these upgrades or anything else ?

    thanks for any advise.

Cold air: Go to a Holden spare parts division, ask for a VS supercharged cold air intake, then go to Repco and ask for a K&N flat panel filter for a VS V6.

Extractors: $600 is a pretty good price for a brand new set fitted. It will make the V6 exhaust sound less tinny and crap, providing the exhaust isn't too open already. Best to them with a single 2.5" catback, centre muffler with no rear resonator. That's about as good as a V6 will sound exhaust wise IMO. Will give the car a bit more boost too.

I wouldn't bother with roller rockers straight up, PM Greenfoam or Delcowizzard and ask them to burn your nephew a VS V6 tune. Just a matter of plugging the new memcal into the cars ECU and away you go. Best bang for buck you can here honestly, i had one on my old VP V6, best cash i spent on it.

Go roller rockers if you like, but generally a set of Yella Terra street rockers for a VS V6 will cost you up around the $1000 mark, not hard to fit, just a little time consuming.

Thanks Cobez, I forgot to mention that the car is on dual fuel so would the supercharged CAI
still be ok to use ? and would anyone know would he have to notify his insurance company for any of this mods, just in case he has a bingle at any time, i know what prics those insurance companies can be when they have to pay out.
    thanks again

check the MACE products for the VS. they do a nice job. the intake manifold spacer and insulator work well, i have these on my car.

some high ratio rockers are the go also, but maybe a bit out of your budget for now.

something else to consider is servicing everything you can, especially if you can do it yourself. great way to learn about your car and can make a huge difference to how it performs. i'd suggest and recommend and new fuel filter and some injector cleaner for starters, then do engine oil and filter. get the trans serviced - full flush. change the plugs and replace the leads if there old.

for the intake, either look at the holden VS super6 CAI and high flow panel filter or maybe the MACE job.

definitly get a tune for it. either greenfoam or delcowizzid are the people to talk too.

Yeah it will still change the note. I was just talking by experience as my old car was a V6 with a 2.5" catback, centre muffler and no rear resi with Pacies.

Either way should still be good.

i was told on this forum that pacemakers are over kill on a n/a v6 unless youre going to go forced intake or heavy internal mods.... pm not_an_abba_fan re extractors, he saved me about $300.

i was in the same position as you and i managed 2.5 catback fitted $220 , extractors $380 fitted ( new aswell ) , delcowizard tune which is very grunty for the cost of postage too NZ and a few memcals i had laying around and a holden CAI $70 , lukey highflow air filter.... car now goes alot harder than stock for around $700...

this was all with help from forum members giving advice and references too good suppliers/mechanics.

not_an_abba_fan is a distributer(i think) so he can cut out the extra money the shop would throw on top, give him a pm and tell him what you want to do and see what he recommends.

also pm delcowizard re: memcal tuning ... i can only recommend him as i havent tried greenfoams tunes but delcos very helpfull and his tune is very punchy , you can notice it from launch right through the rev range in every gear.
