Hey,
I was thinking of replacing the o2 sensor just for the piece of mind, (dont know when it was last replaced, and dont know how well car has been maintained before i got it)
Couple of Questions though:
How many o2 sensors would my v6 vs have?
Is there anyway to check if they are operational before i go and chuck it to get a new one?
is there any other sensors or lil things i should be chcking replacing? (Apart from oil and filters)
was thinking the same thing an hour ago lmao
cant hurt to get new memcal.crank angle sensor, get ur puter remapped and chipped up![]()
Two o2 sensors being an ecotech, if they are completly ****ed they will trigger a fault code to the computer (engine light). But do seem wear diwn and are resonsible for high fuel consumption. Epehect did a fix on the poor earthing problrem also related to the 4-wire o2 sensors.
ur VS will have 2 O2 sensors, one on each side of the exhaust. should be visible from the engine bay, or on the exhaust located just behind the front tyres. pop ur head under to check it out.
if they are completely stuffed, it will log a code, but often they dont due to them still partly operating. not enough to log a fault, and not enough to work properly/correctly.
The only real test is to take it some where where they will plug in their own o2 sensor generally at the end of the exhaust hooked to a machine to read their sensors. that will tell them if its too rich or lean.
no good getting a new memcal if the sensors feeding it are ratshit.
ur "puter" is already chipped up. u either get ur ecu an aftermarket chip OR u get it remapped.
CAS replacement really only if its logging a fault code, or if u've had troubles with it stalling on u when its hot. if its not broke, dont fix it.
^^ agreed ^^
Jamie-b: if ur still having consumption problems after o2 replacement, might be worth fixing the earth issue known to the VS's, costs nothing, n only roughly an hour of time.

anyone got a link on replacing a vr o2 sensor, think i need to replace one of the wires
jw if u buy new extractors, do they usually include new o2 sensors?
they are the same as removing a bolt, unscrew it from the exhaust. unclip the plug and replace.
what wire do u need to replace? on the O2 sensor side of the plug or on the loom side? if its the loom side, whats wrong with it? if its the O2 side dont worry the new O2's come complete.
nope all your purchasing is the extractors, they will change them over for you, but will not replace them.
If you want to test an o2 sensor, heat up the end of it with a hot butane torch for about a minute and as it's heating up, measure with a multimeter and the voltage between the contacts should be between 800mv and around one volt. As it cools, the voltage will slowly drop. If there is no reading above 800mv or nothing then the o2 sensor doesn't work. You can test any o2 sensor this way and it's probably the best method of testing them to know their status.
Hope this helps, might save you spending money on something not needing replacing.
