I currently own a VR Executive with a V6 Buick engine and am interested in changing the heads and cam in it.
I want to put in some VX Supercharged Ecotec V6 heads and cam into it and was wondering if 1: they are compatable and 2: would it improve performance? (I understand that the cam is better and that the heads would have more compression than my VR stock ones?
May i ask why? Having a rough look at both heads they seem to be the same size?
They can be they same size but they need to factor in cylinder piston, bolt holes, push rods and all that jazz.
They definately would, thanks for the reply.
They are from two different engines (VR = Buick 3800, VX = ecotec/L67). The water jackets would almost certainly be different. Anyway, even if you were going to put an M90 on, the L67 top end would not fit. Also, any reason why they are specifically VX SC heads?
There are much better bang for buck mods for the Buick V6, high ratio roller rockers with the stock cam, foamy tune, CAI, exhaust, different cam as you said before. Or if you weren't looking at it before, forced induction.
My mate has a wrecked L67 and we were thinking of putting a few parts into the VR. I was just interested in how much better they really would be, thanks anyway for the reply.
Unfortunately the crank is gone in the L67 so not really worth it.
Pull the heads off get them ported, and slap in a stage 2 crow cam, and a tune up. There will be some reasonable gains to be had with these. Of course taking into account the condition of your engine and how much you pay for everything will determine if the work "is worth it".
Hit me up with some reputation points if i've helped you out! (Star in the bottom left!) Cheers!
