Default Erratic instant L/ 100k readings on trip computer

Anyone seen this before ???? At idle and in gear (auto) the instant L/100k's display jumps all over the shop, but once you start driving it reads like it should. It's a new event in the last few months with the wagon so I'm guessing a faulty sensor

I have the wags for around 8 years now and I'm pretty sure at idle it sat at "0.0" though rapidly reaching old age I could be seeing things !

Yes, but if you read it he also asked if there might be a faulty sensor. I also said "in gear".

Ummm, you have a level 3 cluster yes? Do you have it set to average per kms, or the other setting? One calculates as you drive depending on speed, one re calculates every 100 km's.

Or do you mean on the normal per 100 km setting it's being erratic?

Being a Berlina Cobez, I'm assuming he has the level 3 cluster, and is referring to the Instantaneous reading. If so, it should read 0.0L/100km if in netural, park or any gear WITHOUT moving. When the car moves of it's own accord (in gear, no foot on brake) OR if you use the accelerator, it'll give you instant readouts of what fuel you are using per 100km.

Yep, it should read nothing whilst not moving. Even on mine when you have it on the instantaneous setting and you slow down at the lights it drops then when you stop it sits on 0.0L/100km.

Climbs damn high in that last couple of metres before you stop though

OK took the wagon out tonight to get some cheap petrol (Adelaide is cheapest Tuesday/Wednesday) and watched the instantaneous display and it goes like this.....
In gear and standing still, it flips between 99.0 and 0.00 L/100kms.
In neutral, it flips from any where between 60 ish to 99 L/100kms.

    Go figure

Hmm then my guess would be some form of sensor is worn out. I have no solution though, sorry :P
