So, my car got defected for being too low 12 months ago, broke down 2 days later and has been in garden gnome mode ever since, because of all the stuff I will have to do to it to get it over the pits. So I recently got into motivation mode and started doing stuff to get it going, got it running raised the front end did the front brakes fixed some gearbox/clutch problems.
Today I rang up the cop station cos I couldn't find the bit of paper I got when it was defected, They checked out my rego on file and said we dont have a defect recorded against that vehicle, so I gave em my name and they checked that way, still nothing. I even went out to my car to check I was remembering my licence plate properly and there was nothing on their system at all about a defect....
AWESOME!!!
I'm still dubious...but when I go to register it later in the week, then I will believe it.
Anyone else had a ghost defect?
nah havent had a one of those happen, but i have known people to get told to fix the problem and come back to the police station so the copper can check thats its been fixed...that sounds strange though...but meh nothing you can really do...

That's pretty lucky for you, but, it you were defected for a reason. Your car wsn't roadworthy, but you have seemed to have cleared up a few problems that got you the "defect" in the first place.

Defected for handling too well?
My mate reckons he was defected for un-engeneered airbags 20's and exhaust to lowd in his vy and when the copper gave him the defect he gave him the defect paper and the carbon copy from behind it so he reckons the defect never stuck, im not sure if this is how defects work or they do them on the computer in there car but could be the same sought of thing

I would go to the cop shop and get them to give you something in writing in case you have any trouble.
Yeah plan to get something in writing, Dont wanna get too in depth into it though, im sure if they wanted to, they could slap a new one on it.
of course dont rock the boat, go back after a few of the things are fixed and they will see that you are doing the right thing.
The laws are there for a reason, and I am all for people getting defected for dodgy brakes bald tires blown headlights no brake lights, stuff that can actually have an effect on the safety of the passengers and the people around them. But defect for being lowered? Makes no sense...Defect for cut springs maybe, dodgy shockers sure. Hell even people who wanna rice up their rides with pretty lights, being more noticable on the road is defectable? I've been given a written warning for having my stereo up too loud, I was listening to the radio...I didn't even have my subs in the car at the time but splits have clarity and clarity travels...
I dont think a defect sticker makes your car unroadworthy necessarily. It just might not comply with the strictest regulations. Depending on what the defect is for of course.
it happened to me too when i had defect in my old vp bt1 5ltr, i was driving around for 2 weeks cop pulled me over to check my rego and license, nothing. no defect or anything i was in shock lol so i kept driving around haha.
Mate, if you don't understand how a car being too low makes your car unsafe then maybe you deserve to be off the road until you figure out how suspension keeps your car in contact with the road

i got a defect for my old car being to low was a a hole copper just wrote me up a fine and that was it. if they dont put a canary sticker on it then you aren't defected. thats my understanding anyway. i never raised the car and never had any other problems with the cops. if u drive sensible u wont have problems. lol

Oh yeah. Its registered. I just ripped the sticker off after going into the station and giving them my plate number and stuff again...They said if you just registered it there's no way it could have a defect on it. I said can I rip the sticker off then, and they said "what sticker?" with a funny smirk.

Wrong wrong wrongif u drive sensible u wont have problems
Too low is a matter of opinion. My car was lowered by pedders with all pedders springs shocks bushes n rubbers. I have faith in their assessment of my suspension setup as being safe. That does not however, make it legal.
kinda off topic. but what actually happens if your caught driving a defected car?
A day in court, a big ass fine guaranteed plus whatever else the judge wants to throw at you. Loss of licence is just one of the punishments in the arsenal, with the new hoon laws, they could probably crush ur car or something if they wanted to.
