look under the fuse/relay box in engine bay it will be there that the relay has been disconnected . get yorself a wiring diagram and put wiring back into the relay. your coolant temp switch should still be hooked up but it is also possible that its plug has had a jumper installed to get the fan to run constant.

the wiring for the thermo is speaker wire and it has been wired straight to a little black relay box that isnt spose to be there it was put in for a amp setup that was in it so the amp turns on when ignitions switched on

What the crap?? Amplifiers should turn on when the stereo is turned on, thats what the 'rem' (Remote) wire is for. Sounds like the previous owner of your car is a tool for doing that, and even moreso for using speaker wire. Sounds like the easiest option will be find a wiring diagram, or another VR with the correct wiring to compare, and trace/rewire it back to normal.

yes the old owner who did all the stuff to it was a COMPLETE tool he also cut the wires off the back of the fan box(or whatever it is in the car behind glovebox) because it melted the switch and pulled the fuse out for the a/c. Also pulled the fuse out for the horn and d/c the wires. Also cut the irs springs in half. im sure i will add more to the list......................... Part from all that its a great car :-)

Its good to use a relay for amps, when u got say more than 3 as the current draw from the h/u gets pretty high, u just use the 12v remote wire to energize the relay so it turns on yo amps not risk blowin headunit and you get direct current from batt, thru the relayso its only on when h/u is on, can have up to what ever ampre u want, depending on how many amps u got running to how much current it will need to turn on effectivly

OP can u see any of the orig wiring, plug etc near the shroud, id say the ecu was playin up not turning on the fan, thats y they have done this, i did it to mine but so its not on all the time, on switch.

Ive had 2 ecu die on cooling side, jsut wouldnt relise the car is hot, turn off start again while hot n presto, up she fires, always on first restart it would do it, started jst starting the car 2 times b4 id leave,

Theres a factory plug near the driver side of the radiator in the loom there. Think its orange/blue. Its somthing that just came through on the v8's as its only used on the v6's. To use that plug though i'm pretty sure it has to be enabled in the memcal in the ecu because the v8's never had thermo's.
Alternativly there are kits you can buy from jaycar that arent specifically for thermos but you can adapt them.
