so i have my 94 vr v6 tricked up auto (stage 2 - corvette servo, carbon bands etc etc). lumpy cam, CAI, msd coils + leads, oversized throttlebody (all the general bolt ons), 4.11 lsd.
its never let me down, and is generally great. However tonight, it tried to kill me.
took it out for a spin (gave it a slight flogging as i dont get to drive it as much as she needs) and all was great but towards the end of the drive, it just didnt want to pull up.
so i pulled it her over (safety first!) and as soon as i put it in park the engine started revving off its head (neutral had the same effect).
i checked, the throttle cable - there doesnt seem to be any jamming in the sleeve or linkage to the throttle body.
so i started her up (park + neutral revving straight to 4k/rpm so i kicked it immediately to drive) and straight away I could feel it pulling off the brakes. as a test, i was taking it for a 'putt' and it just keeps accelerating - i had to ride the brakes the whole time home (sometimes using the handbrake to pull it up completely).
im by no means a mechanic, and can only speculate as to where the problem lies and am really looking for any helpful info or advice that can save me the hassle (+ expense) of taking this thing to a mechanic.
the only things i can think of that should really be causing this thing to constantly accelerate are.
1) throttle body / tps sensor - faulty sensor / throttle body jamming / throttle cable jamming somewhere i cant see at 9pm at night
2) another sensor - possibly on or having something to do with the auto.
3) my car is possessed. - its been fine up til tonight.
I just want to add, as far as commodores go, this thing is still not a let down!!! - its just... well... dangerous, and any info is greatly appreciated.

TB prob jamming??
it can only be TB or cable really.. nothing else would let it rev so high without the TB being open
when it goes to 4k etc.. is it running good?... or like a pig?... backfiring? or anything?? \
There is only one way to solve this problem... kill it before it kills you![]()

and in response to the killing it before it kills me... i reckon if i dont do anything.. it'll take us both out (and being that, that will most probably be on a public road. i cant take the risk) - i have to sort it, b4 it kills me itself (hopefully neither!)
ok, well really check out the throttle cable.. cause it sounds like that... maybe the spring on the TB?
an dont dump it into gear like that... it'll **** your tranny (regardless of mods) in 2 seconds
yeah. i figured dumping it wasnt healthy. luckily, it was only into drive once. then she was straight up my driveway.
im gonna rip the air intake down tomorrow and suss it out further. im glad to hear its most likely something like the cable or TB.
if its anything electrical im screwed + i still have my original TB to whack in and test with (ill just need a couple-of spare gaskets and a new tube of gasket goo)
yeah nah nothing electronic can control your throttle.. and to have the engine run so high it has to have the right Air + fuel mixture other wise it'd just die when it started to rev higher..
check the spring on the TB and take your cable off and give it a really good check... ..
possibly broken throttle butterfly, or somthing alike. Possibly a fully stuck open IAC but i would not think it would rev as high asyou have described if it was that.
thanks to all that contributed
i pulled down the air intake assembly today and checked the throttle body.
somehow the IAC plug had shifted and was poking inside the throttle body causing the butterfly to jam.
changed it out with my original one to get me by, and its all good. my local mechanic shaved the inside of the throttlebody for free, so pending a new gasket i should be all good!.
might even consider pulling the bellmouth out while im at it.
