hey all,
l have a leaking thermostat housing (from the bottom part of the gasket as far as l can tell). l was wondering if l can use the rtv sealant when l reapply a new gasket to stop the leaking.
any other ideas also?

as far as know you don't need any sealent just clean the hell out of it till it's clean and no old gasket is left. Do it right, do it once. Do it dodgy, do it many time. Or wax on wax off bla bla bla. I have lots of spare time on my hands!

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
Would that be a V6 or V8?
smurf poo [ rtv blue gasket sealant] is fine to use on the thermostat..
dont use heaps, or it will run into the water jackets when the flow of water hits it..
use to little, and it will leak for ages..
Are you certain you cleaned off the old gasket properly (assuming this started after replacing the gasket)?

Don't be stupid. Power isn't measured by the size of your tacho
Take the thermostat housing off. Using a flat blade, scrape away the old gasket material from the housing and on the motor. Don't score the housing or on the motor and make sure there is no corrosion damage where water can leak past the gasket. Get a new gasket; about $3. Use Loctite No. 4 or 3 on each side of the gasket and bolt back on firm but don't overtighten. Make sure the Loctite 4 is just tacky when putting together. Loctite looks like black tar and it's very good to have in the tool box as it's good on manifolds too.
