More importantly, what is the guy asking for it?
Got any pictures?
How many KM?
Service history?
Any tell tell signs indicating it's been in an accident?
I suggest you get someone who knows about cars or mechanic to have a look.
Depends on KMs, general condition, previous ownership and service history. Typically these older gas guzzling V8s are very hard to sell.
Assuming it is a very good one with reasonable kms and a good service history, I would not pay more than about $4000 for one of these. If it has done very high kms (over 140000) do not buy it at all unless you have lots of spare money to fix all the issues that will arise on the car - knowing you will never get the money back you sink into it.
Bear in mind that if you were trade such a car in you would get a terrible price for it.
They may be gas guzzlers but geez they sound bloody good with a set of headers and a lukey at the rear. They are also fairly bullet proof engine wise and engine parts are pretty cheap and plentifull, especially when you compare them to the Gen III's i.e. just see how much a water pump is for a 5 litre and for a Gen III.![]()
Mmmmm V8
I think Sean is suggesting at 140-150 kays a few things need seeing to. Ive just done my water pump, alternator, starter motor and radiator on my V8 at 140 - 150. That little bit cost me and Ill never see it again as its just normal running costs (would only matter if i were ever going to sell it). Motor itself is fine fine fine and dandy of course.
His second point is interesting. I consider around 140 - 160 ish on a VS acceptable if i was intending to buy one (mine has done 155) being 10-15k per year on average. Less is low, more is high kays to me. I wouldn't buy a car with much more on the clock and would be looking for receipts that the above had been done recently. I am constantly amazed with VS' with 250, 280 kays on them. Who does that much driving?
Thoughts?
Manual too, so that adds a bit of value. I would list her for 6k
lol my vs has done 290k bought it at 270k hasn't caused any problems still going strong
thanks for all your advice guys....i went to have a look at the car and it was not like i was hoping....lots of red flags....speedo was out....had a bonnet bulge which looked like it had been stuck on with sticky tape....car also had group a twin throttle body which i know is worth over 4k...they guy was asking 13000k for it....i know he is dreaming right?
anyway i aint going to buy it...shit was starting to go wrong with the interior and the paint wasnt all that flash....car had done 150,000km....i live in WA...its hard to find vr-vs v8 manuals over here for under 6k....
just gotta keep on looking
i picked mine up for 6 k with lotsa stone chips and with 209,000 on it and i gues it may have been a lucky find as brendo is right some people try to get 5-6 k for a vs exec with 230 -270 on the clock so yeah
