Default removing/installing Throttle body and Maf

    Hey,
as the weekend is coming around it is time for some more DIY'ing.
I would like to clean out the MAF and throttle body, I could only find a guide on doing this to a Vr, which is sort of useless. Could somebody please post a link up.
Im mostly concerned about the TB, i dont want to stuff it up and have it sticking, or being wide open when it should be idling or something else stupid i would probably do.

be gentle with the maf . just take u're time u'll be fine .
i think i removed the idle speed control in the tb & cleaned it 2 , re-used the o-ring .
u may need to reset the base idle if u remove the idle control ....

What does the idle speed control look like?
And what is the base idle, and how do i reset it?

a mechanic told me you can clean the throttle body with a toothbrush and tb cleaner without having to take it off , you have to make sure no tb cleaner drips into the engine though or there might be trouble.

yep , as above . sorry with taking so long to reply .

the iac is on the top of the tb & the throttle position sensor is on the side .
i just spray a bit of solvent/cleaner onto a lint free rag & remove all the carbon/dirt from the tb .

The idle speed control valve/motor (IAC) is the black cylinder with the electrical plug to it, on top of the throttle body, which is at the engine end of the elbow/duct from the air cleaner box. It might help to remove the dress cover/sound insulation off the engine.

Cleaning the IAC valve and port won't do a great deal unless it's very clogged up but shouldn't hurt anything either. There's not much you can do - or have to do - with the airflow meter and you can screw it up trying.

Don't touch the base idle - if it's not wrong now, it won't be after removing and replacing the IAC unless something is screwed up in the process (in which case fix the screw up, probably an air leak, not the base idle).

Carb cleaner is a bit iffy on a throttle body clean. It works well but GMH recommends that it not be used as it can result in the lubricant being washed from the bearings or bushes for the throttle spindle or IAC motor drive gears. A kerosene soaked cloth to wipe the end of the valve and port, and the throttle plate and bore is safer.

its best to pull it off and clean it the amount of people on here that have tried to clean them with them still on and killed the TPS sensor from dirty carby cleaner going down the shaft into them is surprising and it makes cleaning all the passages easy
