I had noticed a gurgling noise on start up for a couple of weeks. However, I had a new starter motor fitted during this time and the mechanic didn't notice anything wrong with the pump then and he checked it right over and gave me a list of what needed doing next.
Today VS over heated. When I checked, the hoses were hot but the radiator cap wasn't - so I thought maybe the water pump had died. There are no leaks.
I got it towed home so I wouldn't cause any more damage. I pulled over as soon as I heard the HOT alarm go off, so hopefully I haven't cracked a head.
Opinions?
stuck thermostat?

sounds like a head gasket possibly. But as above check there are no blockages in the system stopping water flow. Are you losing water into thin air(ie not finding drips on the ground)??, if so then its even more likely a head or head gasket.
If your thermostat comes up as working, you may have a non working water pump.
That happened to my mums car a while back, I drove it and heard that gurgling noise twice whilst driving, but nothing happened to about a week after then she boiled up, it turned out to be the water pump in this car.
