What is the best way to light up the footwells in a VR with red lights? Also where to buy the best light to use
The way I did it was pretty simple. I spliced a switch into the wires for the cigarette lighter, put the switch somewhere subtle. Ran the neon wires underneath the center console and the carpet.
Why.............
Float like an elephant sting like a tree clubsport hits what doug does'nt see
Its a very good look when done properly. I wired mine to the door switches on either side so when u open the front drivers door only the drivers footwell light comes on and the passenger side door... well u get the idea.. looks great
Excuse the noob question but i already have red ones in the vy via a switch. I would like to put some sort of white lights under there too but have them powered off the door switch for when i hop in and out of the car. I take it I would join on to a pos or neg from the door switch but which would it be? I read that the neg is the one that switches it off and on?
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
this might be helpful for VT/VX executive / lo-level BCM owners, but if the VS is similar then read on..
If you've hooked anything to the door pins you will find they work sweet until you close the door and whatever is connected to it gets 5-6volts from the BCM. It is a input for the BCM, you don't want to hook anything to it.
All vt/vx with hi-level bcm's have Dual-Contact door pins that share common earth. This solves the above problem and the switch can be used for a earth without getting the 5-6volts.
Take off the drivers sill/pillar, you will see the output wires/plug that you can tap into for a BCM switched Interior light 12v+ source.. orange wire for VX.
Using a relay:
pin 85 = BCM Light 12v output
pin 86 = chassis ground
pin 87 = direct to battery
pin 30 = to light positive
Attach Light negative to dual door pin switch.
Use suitable fuse and thickness wire for the amperage of the lighting you connect and done.
