Default Trans fluid leak - radiator

I've got a trans fluid pressure leak somewhere around the front of the radiator. there is clean trans fluid over the front bar.

on the weekend i degreased the radiator and trans cooler as well as the surrounding area.

the only damage that i have found is what looks like stone damage to the front of the radiator in one of the cooling fins, however i don't think the internal trans cooler in the radiator has fluid running through the cooling fins?

anybody know how the trans cooler is setup inside radiator?

There is a thing in the bottom tank that looks like a room heater (oil type) that gets cooled bye the coolant is common to have aftermarket external trans coolers on commos tho may be a split line going to that

on passenger side of the radiator there are connectors for the trans lines. sometimes they can come loose. undo the clamps, plug the hose and tighten the connector with a socket. then put the lines back on and new clamps. try that mine were a bit loose and leaked a fair bit

Get a pair of new transmission cooler hoses and clamps. Replace them with 5/16" hose from memory. They get oil soaked and hard after time so the connections might be leaking. About $10 total.

If you have a series 2 VS you will have an external cooler as well as the "in radiator" cooler. The external cooler sits in front of the radiator and is connected to the "in radiator" cooler by a rigid metal hose (no clamps/rubber). Stones can hit the external cooler and make it leak (rare) and the usual cause of a leak there is when the cooler has been knocked which can cause the connections to loosen. The "in radiator" cooler sits in the passenger side tank.
Are you sure it's not a power steering oil leak?

it has external cooler but there are no signs of leakage from that.

has rubber lines to and from external cooler. i'm thinking i'm gonna have to replace these as i can't see any obvious signs of leakage.

definitly trans leak, fluid was low and box was slipping. topped it up and it's much better.

maybe yank on the handbrake and chock the wheels run it in drive while clamping off the return line to the auto youll find the leak most likely only leaking at revs when its pumping more fluid i know you have them brake hose clamps there LOL

yeah, i was considering putting it up on axle stands and running it upto about 70km/h. that should get the line pressure up enough to see where the leak is me thinks.

just replace the rubber lines and degrease.
if there is a leak after that then being clean will make it easy to find.

got the front bar of today, changed the flexi cooler lines going to the external cooler. also found that the nut that secures the interal cooler at the top wasn't very tight either.

also think the plumbing was mixed up a little?

as i know it it should be transmision feed line (lower steel pipe) -> inlet internal cooler (bottom), oulet internal cooler (top) -> inlet external cooler (lower), outlet external cooler (top) -> trans return line(top steel line)/ but when i removed the old line the 2 hoses going to the external cooler were the oposite way?

degreased and now too see if it leaks again.

i'm only taking the front bar off again to fit a intercooler so i hope its fixed

i allwgin the top radiator pipe out the bottom to the top external pipe out the bottom external to trans or it builds more pressure pushing fluid up hill pressure in them is bad

first signs are that the leak is gone. just topped up the fluid level after a quick drive.

    fingers crossed.

    Thumbs up update

    leaks gone.

replacing the flexible lines and tightening the loose fitting in the radiator seems to have done the trick
