Hi all, my stock radiator in the vs v6 Series 1 auto radiator has a crack in the top hose connector and will need replacing soon, is it worth spending more on a better radiator like fully alloy? alot of them seem alot thicker for 2cores 50mm width will this still fit in? Anyone had experience.
it depends, does your car overheat, or do you take it to the track? i mean, if you've never had heat issues, then a thicker or alloy radiator won't provide any benefit to you. i went with an alloy one in my v8, only because the standard and alloy ones were about the same price anyway. you can pick up a standard v6 one for around about $100 brand new, so i'd just tend to go with that.
regarding the fitting, the only problems i had was trying to get the shroud on. that gave me some grief as i couldn't get the clips on. cable ties ftw. other than that they fit perfectly, and look good too.
So far im thinking ill just get a $100 one off ebay, it does get hot in traffic but the fan seems to keep it under control. The cheapest alloys ones i can find is $300 from china.
even the standard ones have alloy cores .. with plastic tanks.
As levy said, if you do any serious track work or summer towing you might think about a bigger one. There's heaps of room between the fan and the engine so it should fit OK but you'll rarely need it.
I had my radiator crack on me today and thought about replacing it with a full alloy one solely because it doesnt have plastic tanks (where it cracked), but then realised I cant afford to splash hundreds on a radiator atm so $100 ebay one it was.![]()
