    Default Engine splutter.

When i start up my VR when it's cold and sometimes when its warm, it idles real rough, almost sounds like it will stall then revs up again, and then when put into drive it does it a little worse, until accelerator is applied.

I was guessing possibly the fuel pump or shit in my injectors from all the crappy petrol lately? Any ideas or am i on the right track?

    process of elimination,
when your engine is cold it takes more spark energy to fire each cylinder.
when its idling rough pull of each spark plug lead then push back on , do this for all 8 leads, the lead you pull off that does not make any difference to the engine idling could be your problem. if that happenes do plugs and leads. You also could take off your distributor cap and clean your rotor button and dizzy cap. scrape all your terminals for better spark. if not look into your fuel filter/pump.
my vs misses when its cold but it goes when it gets warm. just my leads not properly run around my engine and some rest against some steel parts of the engine and earth through the lead causing a miss,

oh you got a v6 , scratch rotor and dizzy advice but i would still pull off/on your leads one by one while its running to see if its a spark prob

Don't pull your leads off!!!!! Disconnect and reconnect the injectors. Apparently you can damage the module by pulling the leads..... Not 100% sure, but don't want to find out the hard way.

    lets start with the basics

when did this start occuring? has it been getting worse over time or just 1 morning it started idling rough? have you changed anything motor wise?

coz it only idles rough, and is fine when more revs are applied, your opening your throttle, this points to your IAC as it opens and closes at idle to give your engine the right amount of air whilst there is no throttle applied. remove and clean your IAC (idle air control), might be easier to remove you throttlebody and clean it with carby cleaner.

disconnecting & reconnecting the injectors will do nothing

i was trying to diagnose a prob with my car pulled the leads off and on .... no probs, at all,
i say if in doubt ask a mechanic, i asked mine he said no probs. better than paying some ass to charge 75 per hour, plus satisfaction of knowing your car.

id go with epecht's advice, the idle air control valve. when the throttle is closed it draws a small amount of air into the throttle body to maintain a "smooth" idle. fairly easy to clean aswell

Yeah it's only a idle thing, and it just randomly started doing it one day and has continued since. Once revs are applied it goes away, i will give it a clean. Thanks for the info.
