wat r my options with balancing a vr flywheel
ive herd there externally balanced. i bought a exchange v6 and
had the fly wheel machined but feels like sumthing is unbalanced
the vr recon motor was balanced with out the flywheel.
so can i just balance the flywheel and pressure plate and that should b ok??
any opinions??
I'd like to know this too. I've got a VR flywheel in my VS and it feels like something isn't balanced.
ok ive spoken to everyone that will listen as im in the same boat as you guys.
This is what people on this forum and a few other people from clutch joints / mechanics etec, etc have said.
Go to an engine builder, get them to mirror balance the flywheel to your auto flex plate I.E so they both have the same balance as the flexplate, in the case of your engine has been fully balanced maybe speak to engine builder.
Get the pressure plate zero balanced for an ecotec.
yer will have to see if the motor builder has the flexplate from the motor that i got built cause mine is a factory manual
Dannyboy i'm not completely familiar with the whole internal/external balancing of an engine. By mirror balancing you basically mean balanced the same as the flex plate was so that the whole engine is balanced. What i don't understand is, can the flywheel be bolted on in any position or only in the same orientation as the flex plate was?
In the case that the flex plate was already removed, how do we go about it?
dunno?
Just relaying what I learned seeing as we are in the same boat, mind you the information I put up only applies to ecotec engines.
There have been a few threads on this recently, infact I think I started one? maybe, anyway if you look at your manual flywheel there is a massive "counter weight" on one side only, its no good for a VS regardless of what position around the crank you place the flywheel.
In regards to what you have asked I will speculate. Most times ive spoken to people about tourqe converter to flexplate alignment (ecotec) they have said its no so important due to the way the ecotec is balanced, I speculate then that if the flywheel is properly balanced we will be ok.
i am converting my vs auto to manual. i understand that you need the flywheel mirror balanced to match the balance of the factory flex plate but do you or should you get the clutch pressure plate balanced? cheers
Hit me up with some reputation points if i've helped you out! (Star in the bottom left!) Cheers!

Thanks mate. Will do. Anyone have any good ideas about drilling the dowel pins into the crank for flywheel.?
It will be fine without the dowel pins, and as with putting the flywheel in different posititions, its impossible because they the bolt pattern offset will only allow it be bolted up one way.
i have heard that the buick v6 vr and earlier are internally balanced
and the ecotch vs onwards are externally balanced
just what i have heard
