so my cousins bf asked me to look at his stato the other day, it seems it leaks all the coolant out within a little bit of driving and obviously overheats. He claims its only happend once so hopefully theres been no serious damage. But after i filled it up with water then took it for a drive to see how it would go, it seemed to run fine but as i got to the end of his street the engine light came on. so i drove back to his house to check the error codes and look for a leak. But the engine light stopped coming on and i couldnt find any leaks. ive checked the oil, all the hoses and ran the car and watching it for leaks but it seems to not wanna do it. any ideas? He said he was told by his old man that it could possibly be leaking into the extractors and into the exhaust or a cracked head. So if anyone has anything simular happend to them sing out...all hes worried about is dodgy mechanics ripping him off lol.
cheers![]()
Clear the codes. Is the car running ok at the moment?
I like VS Caprices so much, I bought 2... and a WH Grange!
how do i clear the codes? yea it runs fine...but after a few days it loses all the colant somewhere.
well when i got mine all the coolant was disappearing. mine was the radiator had pin hole leak on the back and many pin hole leaks on the front that you couldn't see. have a suss and see how well the cooling system has been maintained if its rusty inside and so on.
just a suggestion anyway

how often is it losing the coolant??, if its losing it frequently at random intervals with no signs of leaks then it sounds head/head gasket related. Its more than likely coming out the exhaust in that case, which is why you wont find a leak.
Coolant is easy to smell if its hitting somthing hot in the engine bay and is a good indicator its just a leak somewhere and not head related. Also check around the water pump
my VL used to do that ended up being the head gasket but left it too long and blew the engine
luckly i was gettin a new car=D
well its not my car so im not too sure how often it does it, but he's stopped driving it because its doing it a fair bit. Hopefully the motor isnt broke. Im not sure but when you have a cracked head doesnt the car run like shit? coz his ran fine. but i donno. lol
not always, depends where it breaks. But given how solid these heads are i doubt its them, it would have to be the head gasket
I currently have this problem. It's the front welsh plug behind the engine mount. Mine only leaks at cold idle though, then when the plugs get hot, they expand and it doesn't leak. But every 3 or so days, the coolant resevoir is completely empty.
Getting them all done friday.
