Thumbs down VS Acclaim Idle Problem ??

    Hey guys,

I have just bought a 95 VS Acclaim and have had it for a month now. All good till now...

When I am at the lights or just sitting there on idle (in drive), my car will 'clunk' as if you are changing gears (say from Park to Drive) and im not doing anything. Then, the revs will climb to about 1200-1500rpm. You don't even have to put yor foot on the accellerator and the car basically drive foward itself !! Even up hills !! Took it to a transmision shop and found its not the gearbox. He drove it and it happened several times and he reckons its something to do with the thermo's coming on an off at the wrong/wright time

The revs will only jump (and clunking occures) when the thermo fans come on

If this has happened to you, can you please let me know what was wrong and how you fixed it?

    Thanks guys

Are the thermo fans shorting out and sending voltage to places they shouldnt?

We rang back Burleigh Commodore and they said that maybe its your throttle body, it maybe dirty. I cleaned it yesterday arvo really well with some CRC throttle body cleaner and it was a bit sooty and had some carbon. Took for a drive last night and this morn and all is sweat!!!!!! Hopefully it was only a dirty throttle body.

back again!! it was all good for about a week and its screwed up again my mechanic recomended a whole new throttle body because maybe your htrottle sensor in the throttle body is clogged causing it to stick every now and then making the car rev high. put a new one and its still doing it . can anyone help....... (read top for better explanation) the car will still jump quite a few times and then the thermos will come off and the car will rev higher to approx 1500-1700rpm. it will stay like this unitil the thermo's switch on. i know some of you have helped but anymore suggestions please....

Maybe it's the IAC that's mounted on the throttle body that's sticking - if so that will give a variable idle. No fault codes? Also check the vacuum hoses around the throttle body for splits.
As an experiment, disconnect the connector to the coolant temp sensor (it turns the fans on) and see if the problem is still there. Engine may run a bit rich but will do no harm temporarily.

The thermos will come on in "limp home" mode i.e. if there is a major fault in the engine management - sensors, wiring. It's definitely worth checking for fault codes.

Maybe try the "wiggle test" on the engine bay wiring too: move the engine bay and PCM wiring harnesses with the engine running to see if the fault occurs when a connection is intermittent.

the IAC was replaced along with the throttle body because that was the supposed problem, it was full of gunk and carbon. It was also checked for fault codes on the service i had a few hundred km's ago and there was none found. ill check the vacum hoses 2moro and where is the coolant temp sensor located?? is it near the radiator?

ill try the wiggle test 2moro aswell and see if any happens. keep u informed
    thanks HAKO and Cheap6

The coolant temp sensor is under the thermostat housing - it's the rearmost one - the other one in front with a single wire is the temp gauge sensor.
Re the IAC - if the first one was really dirty maybe the new one is still picking up residual dirt from the throttle body.
