Just a quick question for anyone who has experience with changing boot lids.
I've put a new one on today, and its not quite sitting flush at the rear of the lid and my workshop manual advises me that I need to lower the piece of metal that the lock attaches too. Well I can't for the life of me fit any tool in there to actually undo the bolt. I've even used pliers and a spring gripper tool (not sure if thats what its called I've never been good with names of tools) to try and get a good grip, and the bolt just wont budge. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would WD-40 help? Do I have to bend the piece of metal so that I can get to the bolt (pretty sure this would cause problems down the line with the lock catching properly)? I've changed an arial, put 2 new fuses and a globe under the gear stick, changed the bumper, changed the boot and all the locking mechanisms over to the new boot (putting the new boot on without a helper was a pain...bloody gas struts). To get this far towards getting the car into top shape today...and to be stumped by this is really pissing me off![]()
a bit of WD40 and let it soak, it should let go, i havent looked at the bolts for a while so i cant remember them.
the other thing to check is the rubber stoppers just above the tail lights either side of teh opening. u can twist them up and down (has a thread) try either winding them all the way down or remove them and gently trial closing the boot. if thats no help, i'll have a look at the bolts tomora and get back to you.
i got a rachet in mine, was a bit tight tho. if the wd40 is no good, hunt down a product called penetrine or similiar, cost bout $25 a can but works. dont try using un orthodox methods or tools, cause if you thread or round the bolt your F***d. post up a pic, but i would assume the vs would be very similiar to the vr and i got a 3/8" ratchet in there. ill have a look tomoro for u
Yeah I was thinking a ratchet would work, I dont have any though. I will go and hunt one down today. And I will also try the rubber stoppers (wonder why they didnt mention that in the manual!). Thanks fellas![]()
I use one of these. Cant remember the correct name for it

ring spanner im pritty sure ^
Alright fellas, I adjusted the catch with a ring spanner. However, the bloody thing is still not sitting right and i've come to the conclusion that its the stops. But my stops aren't on a thread...or if they are, the thread is strippedWhat to do, what to do...
ratchet and socket, works perfect..... took me 2 minutes to do mine, its about as tight as it will get(that's what she said!)
