its not the shield plate thing around the brake rotor bent into the rotor itself? This happened to me once, and thought it was the CV's but wasnt. Made the same sound your describing and only when turning.

I gathered you have tried putting the front end of the car up on stands, with the rear wheels chocked on either side. engine running and in neutral, holding the revs at around 1500 - 2000 and turning the wheels full lock either way backd and forth and listening?

This can eliminate a few possibilites and if it does it then its only a matter of having a friend hold the accelorator and turn the wheel while you put your head on each side and listen, I don't recommend climbing under the car while it is running though.

    A few questions.

    1. Is it one side only if so which side? or where is the noise comming from exactly?
    2. High or low speed? or both? you didn't specify if its your car going at high speeds or you turning the wheel quickly.
    3. If going straight over a speed bump does it make the noise or any odd noises?

with the front end design of most suspension systems it could be any bush/component etc really lol, but as you've suggested its been looked over pretty thoroughly, it could be something more hidden, such as wear in the steering rack, shock abs strut bearings/bearing plates etc, or brake components as suggested.

I had a knocking noise under my feet when starting up and driving slow, turned out steering rack needed to be replaced. Thought I would share this as have seen some questions about these symptoms.
