Hey all, I was wondering if it were possible to change VS manual windows to automatic windows. What would I need, where would I go and how much would it set me back?
Also, is it possible to change the dash lights from green to red, is it legal? Also where would i get this done and how much? And does it look decent?
Oh yea...one more thing. Does anyone know of a good place in Sydney that would do custom interiors for a VS??
Cheers guys![]()

There are automatic window kits available that you can install. Even Aldi has them, don't know pricing. Check eBay for a general idea.
Yes you can change the dash lights to another colour, i think it's a small light bulb or something. You will need to take the thingy apart to see. Someone on here did it before, can't remember who though. How it looks is subjective.
Dont think id be brave enough to try out the aldi version. Can you install the power windows from another vs?

Fonzie has just converted to electric windows so he could probably give you some tips on it.
Changing dash lights (well) in a VS is more complicated than just simply swapping over bulbs, but thats all I know on that subject, I never looked into it further

Changing from manual to electric windows is pritty easy to do , took me like a few hours . and once you figure out how to do 1 the others are dead simple. Theres a how on here too which is really helpful. Just as long as you have all the parts its really easy.
what type of Vs do you have ? Because mine was a Acclaim and it already had the cables in it for the windows
And the changing the colour of the dash is a really hard one , as you need to take the green backing of the cluster and so forth
Yea mines a 97 acclaim, would i be able to go to a wreckers and ask them for the power windows? and how much do you recon it would cost?

Yeah wreckers have the power windows, it's not really a difficult job... but you should probably know what you're doing. I'd recommend a pick-a-part wrecker (theres one in Kilsyth VIC), and remove them yourself. That way you learn how to do it too.
If you've got an acclaim you may have the wiring.. But if not, you need to pull out the entire lower dash to run a new loom. Mount the control module somewhere near the steering column, and put the regs in the doors... I wouldn't recommend doing this to a daily driver unless you had someone with you who's done it before.. Because if you screw something up, the window may remain down... And hence, can't safely park the car anywhere.
Blue dash conversion is possible, I'm in the process of doing one and doing a write up. Keep an eye out in the how to section for it... Basically what you'll need though, to do a proper job, is custom made gauge fascias off ebay (For the cluster, HVAC unit, and transmission selector). The rest is just replacement globes..
Cool thnx guys, I just wanted 2 get a general idea as 2 what I had 2 do. Seeing as how im here i might as well ask about window tintingHAs anyone got midnight express? Is it worth the money? Is it a bit to dark from the inside and does it suit a VS?
You Cant Kill Whats Stronger Then Death...
I'm getting a tint done soon too. Philthy, who posted earlier, has midnite express... It's %35 (Darkest legal), and i had a sit in his car the other night to see if I liked it. I didn't see a problem with it... It certainly looks good, personal preference as to if it's dark enough/too dark though.
There are heaps of threads recently about window tinting so have a look around. It seems like heaps of people have midnight express as well. Have a look in my car's thread to see a few pics of it on a dark blue vs, which it looks like yours might be

Since you have an acclaim like I do , All i did was open up where the fuses went under the dash to see if the power windows has the two little metal clips that a fuse went into and the spots near the top where the relays went. (Use the guide on the panel) .
Then i looked under where the radio goes and found the looms for where the power window switches went .
Then this is the most anoyiset part . Take off your front door skins and see if you can see the little plug with like 2 slots in it that the motor plugs into , for the front doors.
And finally to see if you have the rear doors , Take the panel off where the front seatbelts go , and then take out the seatbelt real/roll , and the plastic protector thing. And under nearth you should see a plug with i think about 4 slots in it (which means you will need the looms for the rear doors)
Hope that helps![]()
I had the plugs in my front doors trayner, but no the fuse spot or the plugs in the center console... Running your own loom is a *bit* of a prick, but it works well.
