I Have a VR Calais and the balance shaft bearings are rattling very loudly, I have been told best option is put a new motor in the car so i was wondering if i could fit an Ecotec to my vr? I tried searching for threads with the information I am looking for but coudnt find any. I was wondering would it be worth doing? or should i just find another vr buick motor.
cheers Daniel.
best option and cheapest is take the timing cover off and disconnect the balance shaft cog so it no longer spins then continue driving it works a treat for most people
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
Wouldn't disconnecting the balance shaft cause bad vibrations through the car?
maybe.
but you can pretend your driving a VN![]()
selling vp calais wheels with 97% rubber hardly used!
Yes you can fit an Ecotec but it pays to rewire the car with a Vs wiring harness so it's compatible with the Ecotec engine. I've done it to mine, it's not hard, just takes time.
I originally installed a Vx Ecotec and auto but have moved on to a L67![]()
What else needs to be changed in order for it to work, and could i fit an ecotec out of a vy? cheers.
Yes to using a Vy Ecotec, I installed one into a Vs about 6 months ago
Drill and tap the thermostat housing for the gauge sender.
Plug the EGR hole in the intake manifold near the throttle body, remove EGR gear and Vy exhaust manifolds and use Vs ones.
Swap sumps from the Vy to a Vs one so the bottom brackets bolt up to the gearbox.
As mentioned before use Vs wiring and engine harness & ECU,BCM.
just to confirm, my vr gearbox would bolt up to a vy ecotech no problem? thanks for the help jc58nc
Bolt up yes, but the VR had a 12 pin plug (?) whilst the VS had a 13 pin plug (?), I can only assume they would have continued to use the 13 pin plug. So there may be a chance you have to get another trans depending on which loom you use possibly.
Which trans did you use jc58nc?
I used the original Vs auto in the Vs transplant.
In my Vr ute I used a Vx auto that came with the Vx Ecotec and swapped to the L67 auto and engine out of a Vt Calais both using a Vs wiring harness. I haven't had much to do with a Vr auto, my ute was originally a manual.
