alright so to start with the vr was coming up with code 31 easy fix! (Thanx to everyone who had the same probs) but now it's coming up with 48-crankshaft reference signal missing. What exactly am I looking for here? Does it mean the CAS sensor or is it something else?

yea its Crank Angle Sensor screw! .. need to replace them ... as i got this problem from long time ago .. and replace them. its working well
i hope this will help u i guess so ...
cheers
probably the CAS or maybe a dodgy coil or something sending a dud code. You need to take the balancer off to replace the CAS, thats about it.
will replace cas as it's not something i can do on the side of the road unlike the coil pack. When i took the harmonic balancer off the VB V8 auto i took the cover plate off the trans and used a bar to stop the crankshaft from turning at the torque convertor, Can't do this with the VR as the cover plate joins to the engne as well. Any suggestions other than rattle gun or using an extension bar resting on the chassis rail and then cranking engine as this may cause crank, ringgear or starter damage?
Have been reading thru the forums on this subject and people keep refering to the DFI is this a diect fuel injection sensor? Have got an Ellerys manual turning up soon am i likely to get most of my answers from it?
Thx
the DFI is the flat box the coils sit on top of it processes the cas signal and sends rpm and crankshaft position to the ecu and receives timing commades from the ecu it can sometimes throw CAS codes
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
