Well not NO power but not much. Especially when overtaking, it just seems to be a bit gutless and it has'nt always been like that, i pretty much have to put my foot flat to the floor to make it move. I went to overtake a road train today and i was lucky to get past him in time, the ute took so long gain speed.
I recently put in a new air filter and new fuel filter, so im a bit stumped.
Any suggestions?
spark plugs? throttle body clean out?
v6?
haha sorry someone had to say it mate.
i'd double check the plugs/leads/maf sensor. also as sledgehammer said a tb cleanout is always good value.
failing that maybe injectors?
good luck mate.
how many kms and is the engine running ok could have F***K all compression...
start with a compression test to make sure you're not flogging a dead horse (theres no use spending heaps plugs/leads etc on a worn motor)
the trans isn't slipping etc? as has been suggested, if the compressions okay check plugs/leads/injectors/exhaust leaks etc
Do a fault code check - it may be a transmission problem....you may be in Limp Home Mode. You should be doing at least 140 by the time you pass the cab on a triple road train or 150 for a B double.(pedal to the floor)
Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
Cheers guys, i'll try those things.
Sweefu, yeh mate i know, i wish it was a V8 sometimes.
Chris, it has 185,000 on the clock, but the engine seems to be running fine.
Also, forgot to mention, its a manual. Even when im doing 110 down the highway, i find i need to come back to 4th gear to get the power/speed to overtake. I should'nt need to come back to 4th gear should I?
I pass trucks in 3rd in my brothers 5 litre VS, stuff trying in 5th :P. Doesn't take long tho, you can safely (or at least quickly) do two semis in convoy at once in my VP 5L. My brother attempted to pass at least 6 semis in convoy once and totally failed, he got around 4 and was hung out to dry with two more to go and no where to fit in with more oncomming trucks. Luckly one of the drivers made some room for him *just enough room* and after some heavy braking he got in the gap
always downshift when overtaking. use 3rd when you really need to get it moving fast. 5th is just for cruising.
even a auto will drop a gear when you stomp on it when cruising @100km/h

maybe stuffed cat convertor? i know mine was heaps sluggish when it started to fall apart and block the exhaust
well old manual gearboxes are known to hold longer than auto's as hako said do the diag check and let us know
