Hi every1.
Just wondering if any1 could give me some ideas on what is wrong with my car
(Its a 95 vs commodore)
The problem is that When i turn the key, the engine turns ova but it takes awhile to fire up.
But some times it starts up straight way. Any ideas on wat it might be?
Already checked battery and changed the spark plugs
take out your fuel pump relay and kick the engine over, hold the starter on for no more than 10seconds, if it turns without trouble its not the starter.
starting problems like this usually mean either battery or fuel...are you SURE the battery is good?

i had same problem with my old vr stato the alternator was on its way out and unfortunalty when i took it to a auto lec he said that unless it was f***ed then you cant tell.
Try swapping the fuel pump relay with another similar one on the relay block - the relay may be dodgy.
Most likely it's the tuel pressure regulator. I had the same problem. Unfortunately, I don't know if it can be tesed. I took a punt and both a new one (about $90) and it worked. Now it fires each time.
Sorry, should have said FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR.
Thanks for the ideas, ill hav a look 2 morrow
hey mate, i have a vt which was doing this. it was the check valve in the fuel pump ( oneway valve).
its is suppose to hold the fuel pressure once the pump stops but when it fails the fuel drains back to the tank leaving no pressure in the rail so takes longer to start.
i could tell on mine by squeezing the fuel line in the engine bay and it was soft then as the ignition came on and the pump primed it went rock hard and as soon as the pump shut off it went soft.
now that its fixed the line is hard the whole time.
hope this helps
