    Default Spark Plug Problem

    Hey guys,

My VS hasn't been running the best lately and it felt like it was missing under load the other night so I just pulled the plugs out and they have a white build up on them. I did a quick google search and it told me that it means my car is running lean, is this right? Anyone got some suggestions?

    Cheers.

Maybe time to replace oxygen sensor(s).

I'd just replace the plugs first as the buildup indicates that they've done quite a few miles. Also you will find that spark plug colour is no longer a real guide to engine condition due to the different mixes of fuel, ethanol etc. If the O2 sensors were buggered they may have left a fault code so also do a test:

Ok well I cleaned up all the plugs and went for a spin and it was still playing up. I had to go out so I called the RAA. Came out and took a look and he said that I need new plugs and leads. Apparently the plugs are "tracking" I think he said. So I will borrow my dads ute till I get a chance to get a new set

There was a report of this problem a few weeks ago on Today Tonight, A fuel contaminant doing a lot of damage.

didn't they determine that it was more likely to have been foul play, rather than a fuel contaminant? when the story was published, more cases mysteriously turned up for insurance payouts...

hmmm did some googling on that fuel thing... this is about all I could find but looks like that effected pretty much just victoria so doesnt look like thats the cause.

But anyway I have never had to buy plugs before as they have always been replaced at major services so about how much are new plugs and leads going to cost me? Also is it going to be worth replacing the plugs and leads all at once or should I just replace the plugs and see how it goes before replacing the leads?

    Thanks guys
