I can hear a low pitched vibrating metal-on-metal sound when i accelerate in too high-a-gear. In other words, when the engine is labouring. Granted i can avoid this by down shifting but it still shouldnt make this noise. It also does it when going over certain bumps. I've replaced the rear shocks so it's not those.
There's nothing in the boot either, and it's not the spare wheel or jack. It definitely sounds like it's within the car and is being amplified in the boot.
Got to be metal to metal somewhere - exhaust is prime culprit although any suspension bush that is worn (like panhard rod). Engine mounts OK?
All the rear bushes have been replaced, exhaust is secure. Not sure about engine mounts, they look fine from the outside but they could be damaged.
I might pull out the parcel shelf and check under there. Also maybe boot lid?
