hey guys i noticed when im on n off the throttle i get a knock sound cuming from the bottom front i put my head under and had a look and noticed the drivers side extractor is slightly touching the front bottom housing of the gearbox is there any way i can have more room so its abit away from it Hrm ??
**its a vs clubby 5.0l 5speed**
any ideas cheers
not totally uncommon. i think most people just grind a little out the gear box support.
something that may work is to unbolt the header slightly, wedge a block off wood between header pipe and gearbox, then tighten the bolts again. then run engine and get header real hot. as the header heats it will relax the steel. then remove wood and when it cools it should stay where it is.

Or just get a lever in there and bend it out of the way. It won't need any more than about 10mm clearance as the engine and gearbox move together.
Although I doubt this is actually where the noise would be coming from. It would be more likely hitting the rack or the cross member.
its going to the exhuast shop soon so il get it on the hoist and have a good look at it maybe he can help me out with it cheers guys
i had a vr ss auto with pacies on it that was hitting on the chassis rail, my mechanic loosened the engine mounts and gently jacked up the motor on the opposite side. i assume this pushed that mount up as far as the slots where the bolt goes thru would allow making the other side drop down before he tightened them back up. it worked, just
i think the usualy make a small dent in the extractor so it fits lol ive heard it done before

You sure they not hitting up under the floor pan somwhere??? Broken engine mounts can contribute to this.
