How hot does it get on the gauge? It's normal for it to get quite warm when stationary to a degree, as when you are driving, cooler air is being sucked into the engine, radiator etc, whilst when you are stationary, it's not.

Sounds pretty normal to me. With no air moving through the radiator they heat up pretty quick

Fix that leak for starters, less heat under pressure or boiling point is better one of them. simply dropoff the top and bottom radiator hose and use a hose to flush the radiator and flush through the block. Could be your thermosts so do that first as they are only $10 anyway. Besides that sounds like you rediator could be blocked. But if you been doin regular coolant changes then it shouldnt be.

yeah that normal mate. if it gets to about if it get to about 75% (3 quarters) and the fans etc don't kick in then you have a problem.

Default VS Running hot when Stationary

    Hi
On my parents VS (I usually Drive it ;P) it has had a heating problem for about 2 years.

They have finally started to try and fix it and were told to try the radiator. Thats been replaced and it doesn't boil any more and sits just above a 1/4 on the gauge when cruising.

The problem is when stationary for more than a minute or so it heats up to above 3/4 before the fan cuts in. Even then the fan is only on for about 10 seconds and the temperature stays above half. I am just wondering if the sensor thats turns on the fan could be stuffed or somethin coz occasionally it spits coolant out too after a drive.

    sorry for the long post
    thanks
I may have broken the law, but that doesn't make it wrong!

Mine gets up between 1/2 and 3/4 and then the fans kick in, when I'm stationary. I've rplaced the coolant and the thermo and its the same so I'd say its pretty normal. A new thermo and skity thing cost like $10-$15 max mate

Mine doesn't get above halfway, that's after i have given it a fairly hard run and i sit at the lights. Other than that, it sits just above quarter. That's with fresh coolant sensors, and fresh everything else cooling system wise.

The standard settings for the fans are at about half way (105?c). But the leak will be the reason it's getting warm in the first place, You shouldn't hardly ever actually need the fans to come on

Rarely does mine get above halfway, It usually sits about 1/4. But it doesn't actually get up to 3/4 like it gets just past halfway before it comes back down

I have to agree with Greenfoam, it sounds a tad abnormal, my fans generally dont come on unless im sitting still for a minimum of five minutes at the gauge never gets above the half mark.
