Default T5 cable clutch ditched for hydraulic setup

    Hey guys,
I had a search and couldn't find anything on this topic. I'm getting kinda sick of pushing in my clutch because its so heavy. Has anyone actually converted there T5 to a hydraulic setup before?
If so, whats involved in the process?
    Is it expensive?
    Cheers!

Your first hurdle is getting the clutch fork to push backwards rather than pull forwards to engage the clutch. Nothing is impossible but not without it's challenges. Kinda like switching your leaf blower to suck rather than blow.

No, no-one to my knowledge has done it. Spent a fair bit of time on this once to find out what is needed. You have a head strt in that the series 3 vs had a hydraulic pedal box and master setup for the getrag box. So your first stop is to get one of them and install it. You will then need to go to a brake shop and find out what size slave cylinder you need to suit the vs master. You will need to make a fully custom bracket to mount it to the gear box and attach to the clutch folk. As said above you will need to mount it in reverse cause your gonna have to push the clutch pedal forward to disengage. Finally you gonna have to make custom hydraulic lines to go between. Again your gonna have to consult you local clutch joint for what fittings your gonna need.

Other option is HTOB (hydraulic throw out bearing). Google them. But your even less likely to get the right imformation on them to find one that suits. It would be somthing you would need time to spend on it with a bitof trial and error

ive just finished converting my old nissan navara to a 3.8 V6, using a T5 5 speed box and this is the hydraulic setup ive come up with, mine was originally a hydraulic clutch so you would have to use the vs master cylinder and pedal linkage

wow that bracket setup looks pretty neat mate. where did you source that from? Looks like it could be a fairly simple mod the way you've done it... basically Getrag pedal box, master cylinder, slave cylinder, your fancy bracket with piston, lines & fittings.. sound about right?

Has anyone thought of adapting the Hydraulic Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC) off a T5 from the XR6 fords ? The ford T5 & the GMH T5 look to be physically very much the same. So fitting one may not be that hard to do.

    Cheers

Personally I wouldnt bother just buy a new clutch...
I had a T5 an wen i bought it the clutch was really heavy, but when i replaced the clutch (RPM H/D) was pretty light, not as light as hydro but hardly what I would call difficult

Are you saying you put a RPM HD into the GMH T5 set up ?
Or a RPM HD into a XR6, & was it a single or twin disc clutch set up ?

    Cheers
