Default Vs running hot when stationary

    Hi
On my parents VS (I usually Drive it ;P) it has had a heating problem for about 2 years.

They have finally started to try and fix it and were told to try the radiator. Thats been replaced and it doesn't boil any more and sits just above a 1/4 on the gauge when cruising.

The problem is when stationary for more than a minute or so it heats up to above 3/4 before the fan cuts in. Even then the fan is only on for about 10 seconds and the temperature stays above half. I am just wondering if the sensor thats turns on the fan could be stuffed or somethin coz occasionally it spits coolant out too after a drive.

    sorry for the long post
    thanks
I may have broken the law, but that doesn't make it wrong!

Mine also was behaving in a similar manner and i removed the fan sensor unit below the water pump housing and was going to replace it on a Sunday and found that Repco had given me the incorrect replacement so i polished the old one with a wire brush and put it back in.

I also did replace the thermostat with one that opened up at a cooler water temp it is a Dayco DT 26A - BP its a 180 deg F or 82 deg C with a 44 mm diameter, i purchased it from Repco.
Anyway my VS is running as cool as the second mark from cold and now the fan comes on before it reaches 1/4 mark and if you get caught sitting in traffic and the fan is not kicking in then switch the air con on and the fan should start up instantly.
I have also read on this forum either turn the air con on or the heater for the radiator cooling fan to cut in, and it workes 4 me with the air con, but i have not tried it using the heater as yet, mayby ill wait for Brisbanes cold winter lol.

Thx, i might try cleaning the sensor but we were told that using the aircon to get the fan to cut in causes more wear on the air con system
