Default fuel pump cavitation in a VS ute

    g'day everyone,

i've lately been having some issues in the fuel system in my ute. about 2 weeks ago the fuel pump shat itself so i put a newie in. was all smooth sailing until the fuel level in the tank gets to around 1/3 of the total capacity, and whenever i turn a right hand corner (such as a roundabout) the fuel pump starts cavitating in the tank.

these tanks have a little bucket like thing that the pump sits in, which i think is to eliminate fuel moving away from the pump and the pump cavitating. which is what it is doing now.

all the hoses and lines have no leaks or cracks, and the pump is working fine.

so the only thing i can think of is the little bucket thing has a hole in it or a crack, which is causing the fuel level around the pump being too low when the tank is 1/3 full and the cavitation occuring.

thoughts, advice, things to look for?

    thanks

I have read many threads on this problem. I found one on a quick search:

VS V6 96 engine dies when turning a sharp corner please help!!!

You may have dislodged your fuel return line when installing the new pump.

The swirl pot has been known to break during pump changeover as it gets brittle over the years. I think the only fix is a new/secondhand tank.

ahh that makes sense, most likely the problem.

hmm, might make a long range tank to use up that space... just a thought. dont really need it though.
